    Texas assistant Rodney Terry is the new head coach at Fresno State, according to a report from the Fresno Bee.

    Terry has been an assistant under Rick Barnes for nine years. In the last eight, Texas went 204-72 with eight NCAA Tournament appearances and one Final Four appearance. The Longhorns finished 28-8 this year after losing to Arizona in the West Regional.

    Terry has been instrumental in recruiting players out of Canada and helped sign Grassroots Canada players Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph and Myck Kabongo, so Fresno may be in for some Canadians in the future.

    When few other coaches were recruiting in Canada, Barnes and Terry scouted the Grassroots Canada team during games in the U.S. and also trekked north of the border.

    North Carolina

    North Carolina forwards John Henson and Tyler Zeller will both return to North Carolina next season, boosting the Tar Heels’ chances of challenging for their second national championship in four years.

    Henson, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., and Zeller, a junior from Washington, Ind., were each second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selections in 2011.

    Freshman forward Harrison Barnes is still reviewing information about the possibility of declaring for the NBA Draft. If he opts to return the Heels could be the preseason No. 1 team in some people’s eyes.

    Articles, N.C. State

    New N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried spoke for the first time Wednesday night with N.C. State commit Tyler Harris and his father Torrel.

    Tyler, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward from St. Benedict’s Prep, was busy with a workout and was unavailable for comment but Torrel said the conversation went well and Tyler remains committed to N.C. State.

    “We picked them and I want to give them every opportunity to see how Tyler can fit in at N.C. State,” Torrel said.

    Hurleys, St. Benedict's

    After just one season as head coach of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, Roshown McLeod has resigned.

    “Today I submitted my resignation as head basketball coach at St. Benedict’s Prep in order to pursue other coaching opportunities,” McLeod said. “I am truly grateful to Father Edwin Leahy for allowing me to coach and work there this past year. It was a tremendous experience coaching at such a prestigious academic and athletic high school institution. I truly appreciate all of the support from the alumni and administration during this past season.  I wish the Gray Bees nothing but success as they move forward.”

    The former St. Anthony and Duke standout took over for Dan Hurley, who turned St. Benedict’s into a national powerhouse during his nine-year tenure before taking the job at Wagner College.

    St. Benedict’s finished 13-12 this season after going 20-1 a year ago.

    Kansas

    Junior guard Tyshawn Taylor and sophomore forward Thomas Robinson will remain at Kansas next season and not enter the NBA Draft, the school announced Wednesday.

    Kansas finished 35-3 and won the Big 12 regular-season title before crashing out at the hands of upstart VCU in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

    “We had a great year,” said Taylor, a Hoboken, N.J., native who starred at St. Anthony. “But since the season ended disappointingly, there has been a lot speculation with fans and on the internet on what we were going to do. The bottom line is we’re going to work very hard this offseason and put ourselves in a position to play in that game again and come out with a different result.”

    Duke, Kyrie Irving

    Kyrie Irving will enter the 2011 NBA Draft with plans to hire an agent, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski announced Wednesday.

    DraftExpress.com projects the 6-foot-2 West Orange, N.J. native as the No. 1 overall pick in the June 23 draft in Newark.

    One veteran NBA scout, however, told SNY.tv he would choose Arizona’s Derrick Williams with the No. 1 pick.

    “Our whole program is overjoyed with having Kyrie here for one year and that he has the chance now to pursue a dream of being a high draft pick and a great player in the NBA,” Krzyzewski said in a statement.
