TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard had just finished coaching his team to a win against Villanova on Saturday afternoon when he already began to look ahead to what the Wildcats are bringing in next season.

“And I hate to say it, next year’s going to be even more brutal [in the Big East] because I think Creighton gets older, we get older, Nova’s going to get what they have coming in,” Willard said at Prudential Center following his team’s 79-75 victory.

When I said to Willard, “Good luck guarding Bryan Antoine next year,” he was quick to respond with a smile.

“Yeah, thanks” he said. “I ain’t guarding him so I wouldn’t mind him at all. [Junior guard] Quincy [McKnight], good luck.”

The last time Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis were at a USA Basketball minicamp, they were both uncommitted and they were both cut.

Antoine and Lewis were cut this summer from the team that went on to win the gold medal at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Now, both players out of the Ranney (N.J.) School and Team Rio have already chosen their future college destinations and are more focused at USA Basketball minicamp in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“When you’re uncommitted it can be a distraction,” Antoine told USA Today. “Just with constantly texting coaches back and having to think about where you want to go. It’s different. I like it this way better.”

Savior Akuwovo, the 6-foot-9 Class of 2018 shot-blocking big man, will transfer to the Ranney School next year following the closing of St. Anthony’s, sources told ZAGSBLOG.

Akuwovo will join forces with the Class of 2019 duo of Scottie Lewis and Bryan Antoine at Ranney.

Last season, Akuwovo averaged seven rebounds, six points, and two blocked shots per game for the Friars.

“(Akuwovo) brings a winning, selfless attitude to Ranney,” said his guardian, former St. Anthony’s and Seton Hall star Terry Dehere.

“It’s a great addition,” Ranney coach and former Maryland player Tahj Holden said. “He complements the skill sets and the players that we have coming back from last year’s team. He’s also a great fit from an academic and personality standpoint. It’ll be exciting to see how quickly we can come together as a team next year.”
