  • M.J. Walker, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Jonesboro (Ga.) High School, committed to Florida State on Wednesday.

Ranked No. 25 by ESPN.com,Walker also considered UCLA, Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Georgia Tech.

Jonesboro coach Dan Maehlman told ZAGSBLOG he expects Walker to sign scholarship papers. The deadline for signing a National Letter of Intent was May 17.

“He has all the ability and work ethic to be a first-round draft pick some day,” Maehlman said. “[Florida State] is very fortunate.”

M.J. Walker, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Jonesboro (Ga.) High School, is currently on an official visit to UCLA, sources confirmed to ZAGSBLOG.

Walker, ranked No. 25 by ESPN.com, is one of four Top 40 players in the ESPN rankings who remains uncommitted, along with Mohamed Bamba, Brian Bowen and Tremont Waters.

Walker has also recently visited Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Georgia Tech.

“What has taken him so long to commit is he comes from a very smart family and they know basketball,” Jonesboro coach Dan Maehlman told 247Sports.com. “His mother played at Hampton and his dad played at Norfolk State. His sister played at Miles College, a Division II school in Alabama.

“A lot of high school kids these days have people and a network to help them make a decision. But they are taking their time with this to make sure they not only have the right program but also the right place for M.J.”

CHICAGO — M.J. Walker may not be prepared to make his final college decision — but he does know what teams should expect from him at the college level.

“I bring leadership and I like being aggressive,” Walker said. “I play with a dog mentality. When I do that, my teammates usually follow. And when I get that going, there’s no telling how good our team can be.”

The 6-foot-5 Jonesboro (GA) shooting guard wants to take advantage of the McDonald’s All-American game opportunity. On Team West, next to impressive guards including Duke commit Gary Trent Jr., Walker has made an impact during scrimmages with his defense and versatility.
