Iona coach Rick Pitino continues to dip into the Transfer Portal for experienced point guards to run his team.

After having Tyson Jolly run the show last season, Iona on Tuesday added a pledge from ex-Missouri point guard Anton Brookshire.

The 6-foot-2 1/2, 180-pound Missouri native averaged 1.5 points and 0.8 assists in 18 games last season at Mizzou.

“After talking with my family and the coaching staff and just seeing where I could come in and help this program, it seemed like the right place for me,” he said. “On top of that I loved the coaching staff. Getting to play for a guy like coach Rick is a true blessing. After seeing all the pros he has coached I know that he could get me to my best and at the end of the day that’s all what it’s about. The campus was beautiful I liked everything about that as well.

“The skill set that I have is that I can shoot the ball really well and I can also get down hill and create open shots for my teammates. Most importantly, my leadership. I feel like I could come here and be a great leader because of the players on this team. Everyone on this team once to win and when you have guys like that, that is willing to have the same goal, it all becomes easy to lead.”

Iona also added 6-3 Pacific transfer Daniss Jenkins, who averaged 12.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season, as well as point guard Cruz Davis, shooting guard Josué Grullon, small forwards Sadiku Ayo, power forward Keither Florence and big man Silas Sunday in the Class of 2022.
