Simeon Wilcher, the five-star Class of 2023 guard from Roselle Catholic (N.J.) and the NY Rens, took an official visit to North Carolina this weekend and felt the love from the Tar Heels staff.

“[He’s a] priority,” Sergio Wilcher said of his son Simeon. “He is what UNC is about on and off the court.”

UNC head coach Hubert Davis and assistant Jeff Lebo have made Wilcher a priority in the 2023 class and recently visited him at Roselle Catholic.

“It was actually great talking to Hubert,” Sergio said last month. “First of all, you have the North Carolina head coach coming to see your kid, and regardless of what else you’re talking about it’s an amazing thing.

“They love his size, his style of play, the way he plays. We talked about the fit and what they do at North Carolina. He really just spent time getting to know myself, my wife and getting to know Simeon. We spent a lot of time just talking, it wasn’t even really a whole lot about basketball.

“I’ve had these conversations before and very rarely have they gone in that direction where he spent a lot of time talking to my wife. And Coach Lebo was there, too, which was great. It was good.”

UConn, Oregon, Nebraska, Syracuse, Maryland and others are involved for Wilcher, whose older brother, C.J., is a freshman at Nebraska. Sergio and Class of 22 teammate Jamarques Lawrence visited Nebraska last weekend.

Wilcher also plans to visit Oregon, Syracuse and Maryland, among others.

“UNC has been very active in their recruitment of Sim,” RC coach Dave Boff said. “They are definitely making him a priority. Coach Davis and the rest of the staff think he is a great fit in their system.”
