Gonzaga, Duke and USC have emerged as the frontrunners to land Florida transfer Andrew Nembhard, sources confirmed.
There is no timeline on a decision, sources said.
The 6-foot-5 Nembhard initially chose Florida over Gonzaga, Ohio State, and USC in October 2017. He visited Gonzaga and USC in high school.
Nembhard averaged 11.2 points, 5.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds last season for the Gators. He would have to sit the 2020-21 season unless he obtains an NCAA waiver.
Gonzaga has a history of success with Canadian players, having landed Brandon Clarke, Kelly Olynyk, Kevin Pangos and Kyle Wiltjer, all of whom have competed with the Canadian national team.
Nembhard was unable to play with the Canadian U19 team that won a gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Cairo, Egypt in 2017 because he suffered a stress fracture in his foot and then got ill at Montverde (FL) Academy, making him unable to travel to Egypt.
The star of that team was R.J. Barrett, who did a one-and-done year at Duke before becoming the No. 3 pick of the 2019 NBA Draft by the Knicks.
Nembhard, Barrett and Gonzaga’s Filip Petrusev also led Montverde (FL) Academy to an undefeated 35-0 record and the Geico High School National Championship.
Duke AD Kevin White is the father of Florida coach Mike White.
As for USC, one source said it would give Nembhard the best shot of being featured offensively.
