Just three days after de-committing, Columbia grad-transfer Patrick Tapé has recommitted to Duke, he told ZAGSBLOG Sunday.

“I thought at first that I rushed into the commitment but after having some time to think I realized that it was the best place for me,” he said. “I believe that I bring experience at this level, passing, touch around the rim, solid rebounding, and defensive presence.”

Tape, a 6-foot-10, 235-pound power forward from Charlotte, N.C., initially committed to Duke on March 24 before reopening his recruitment on Thursday.

After withdrawing from the Columbia team last November due to a foot injury, he will be immediately eligible to play in the 2020-21 season.

Tapé averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game as a junior during the 2018-19 season.

Tapé is the first graduate transfer in Duke history. He chose the Blue Devils over several programs including Georgetown and Syracuse.

He is set to compete with incoming freshman Mark Williams for the starting center position.

247Sports first reported Tape’s commitment Sunday.
