NEW YORK — Trey Patterson and his Rutgers Prep teammates upset North Carolina-bound R.J. Davis and Archbishop Stepinac on Sunday at the Empire Invitational.
On a day when Davis set a new Westchester County scoring record, Patterson put on his own show, going for 25 points and 10 rebounds in an 81-68 win before a slew of college coaches.
Assistants from Seton Hall, Maryland and Georgetown were among those on hand for the 6-foot-7 Patterson, the No. 10 small forward in the Class of 2021 per 247Sports.com.
Patterson took an official visit to Indiana (Oct. 11) and Florida (Nov. 8) and has also taken unofficials to Stanford and Villanova. As for Indiana, he said, “Their message was just big about skill development, me playing on the wing. How much development they do on their wing guys and just developing me and my game for the next level. Florida had a similar message. “They want to develop me, develop my skills for the next level,” he said. He visited Stanford last summer. “It was after the Steph Curry camp,” he said. “I didn’t get to meet the head coach but it was still fun.” Vilanova has a long history of success with Garden State guards and wings including Mike Nardi, Corey Fisher, Corey Stokes and now Bryan Antoine. “Coach [Jay] Wright and coach Nardi have been at the school a good amount of time and they’re always just preaching that they want to start off the 2021 class with me and recruiting around me for their upcoming class,” he said. “They’re just preaching that message to me that they’re building around me.” As for potential future visits, Patterson is focused on his season for the time being. “When the season calms down,” he said, “me and my parents will decide.” Follow Adam Zagoria on Twitter And Like ZAGS on FacebookUNC commit Ari Davis vs Trey Patterson was a BATTLE till the end!! @EmpireInvite @_treypatt3 pic.twitter.com/EwCJGTEYYI
