By ADAM ZAGORIAA.J. Hoggard, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Class of 2020 point guard from Huntington Prep (WV) and the PSA Cardinals, committed to Michigan State on Sunday.
Ranked the No. 13 point guard in the class by 247Sports.com, Hoggard also visited Providence (Aug. 30), Ole Miss (Sept. 5), Marquette (Sept. 18) and Florida (Sept. 20).
After suiting up last spring and summer for Philly-based Team Final, the Coatesville, PA native made the jump to the PSA Cardinals for this year. On the EYBL circuit, Hoggard has posted impressive per-game averages of 16.2 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds, while maintaining an efficient 52.1 percent clip from the field, having no trouble adjusting to new teammates.
“I will bring an elite skill set,” he said, “I’m working every day to be elite.”
Said Isaac Green of the PSA Cardinals: “A.J. Hoggard brings a great deal of physical and mental toughness. He is an extremely unselfish player who understands pace off the bounce, and can make the game easier for his teammates. We’re super excited to watch his game and approach to the game continue to progress.”
He joins point guard Jalen Terry and power forward Mady Sissoko in Michigan State’s 2020 class.
“First and foremost, AJ Hoggard has positioned himself to be considered a winner for the remainder of his career due to his choice of high school and AAU programs,” PSA Cardinals director Terrance “Munch” Williams said. “In college, he will be able to break down defenders and make his teammates better. He’s ready to run a team from Day 1 and can score with the best of them.”
