Justin Powell, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound Class of 2020 shooting guard from North Oldham (KY), committed to Auburn on Friday.

Xavier, Ohio State and Georgia Tech were also involved for Powell, who spent last year at powerhouse Montverde (FL) Academy. Auburn assistant Ira Bowman gets the assist.

“[I chose Auburn because of] the atmosphere and how everything at Auburn is a family environment,” he said. “Most schools say they are a family but you can tell at Auburn they really mean it and show it. Coach [Bruce] Pearl is one of the best in the business and he cares about his players more than anyone I have seen and I wanted to play for him and I’m comfortable with the great coaching staff.”

He added: “I bring versatility. I can shoot but I also can dish and drive and finish around the rim, not just a shooter. I think I fit perfectly with their play style and it should be a fun journey.”

Powell is ranked the No. 51 shooting guard nationally by 247Sports.com.

“He’s a great shooter and passer,” said North Oldham head coach David Levitch said. “He can do everything very well. He’s an athletic defender on and off the ball.

Auburn will also host 2020 IMG Academy (FL) combo guard Jaden Springer and 2020 shooter Jayden Stone of Sunrise Christian (KS) this weekend on official visits.

They also remain in the mix for B.J. Boston, Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Cliff Omoruyi. Omoruyi is expected to visit Auburn in two weeks.
