Former Pittsburgh guard Marcus Carr will transfer to Minnesota, according to 247Sports. Carr heard from a handful of schools after leaving Pittsburgh, but the only visit he took was to Minnesota.

“I went out for a visit there this past weekend and really fell in love with the place,” Carr told 247Sports. “I got a chance to meet coach [Richard] Pitino and tour the school and after leaving there and talking to my family I just felt that was the place for me to be.”

Carr transferred from Pittsburgh after Kevin Stallings was relieved of his duties as head coach.

“The Big Ten is a great conference,” Carr said. “Talking with coach and him telling me his plan for me and his team and how I can come in and impact the team.”

Carr will have to sit out this season but has three years of eligibility. Vanderbilt transfer Peyton Willis also committed to the Gophers in April.

Carr averaged 10 points, four assists, and 2.8 rebounds this season.

“At the end of the day the recruiting process is a bit of a game and as the game unfolded it was clear that Minnesota wanted Marcus the most and had the best situation for him,” said Vidal Massiah, director of King Nation Basketball.

“Coach Pitino recruited Marcus out of high school and knows his game. The familiarity between Marcus and his head coach plays a huge role in the success of any point guard. I believe the style of play coach Pitino wants to run with suits Marcus very well and will display his ability to pass in the open court, score and make plays off the pick and role in the half court, as well as use his strong body and lateral quickness to lock up on the defensive end in a physical Big 10 Conference.”
