  • Rafa Nadal on brink of more history at French Open

    As the French Open semifinal between Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka wound past the four-hour mark on Friday in Paris there was concern that the second semifinal would not end before sunset and would spill into Saturday, putting the winner of that match at a decided disadvantage entering Sunday’s final.

    Rafael Nadal made certain that wasn’t an issue at all.

    After Court Philippe Chatrier was emptied of the crowd that witnessed Wawrinka march into his second Roland Garros final via a 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over top seed Murray in 4 hours, 34 minutes, Nadal needed just 2 hours, 7 minutes to dispatch 23-year-old Austrian Dominic Thiem, 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.
