Boston College has landed a pledge from 6-foot-8 small forward Vin Baker Jr., the son of the former NBA standout.

A senior at Hamden Hall (Conn.) Country Day School, Baker Jr. averaged 16.5 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists this past season.

“I feel that Boston College is the best place for me to grow as a player and student,” Baker told Clevis Murray of The Boston Globe. “Coach [Jim] Christian and [assistant] coach [Scott] Spinelli told me the things that they were going to do for me to turn me into the best player that I can be, and that’s what I need, a supportive system.

“It means a lot. They believe in me and see the potential I have. They want me to succeed.”

Vin Baker Sr. played college ball at Hartford and then spent 13 years in the NBA with Milwaukee, Seattle, Boston, the Knicks, Houston and the Clippers.

“He knows exactly what it takes to be a pro,” Vin Jr. told the Globe. “He knew what type of player I was when other coaches didn’t and he trained me as such, to be a tall big/guard, and it has elevated my game ever year.”

Baker Jr. joins power forward Luka Kraljević  in BC’s 2017 class.

“My strengths are being able to dribble and score the ball from the outside at my size,” said Baker, “and my weakness is being able to guard small, quick guards at my position, which I will work on all summer and season.”
