  • Givon Crump Trimming List

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
Givon Crump is trimming his list.

Crump, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward from Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy ranked No. 26 among small forwards in the Class of 2009 by Rivals, is looking at Michigan, Oregon State, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Maryland, DePaul, South Florida, Cal and Southern Methodist.

“I’m just planning out who I will be visiting with in September,” Crump told Beaverblitz.com. “Shortly after that I’ll make a commitment. I’m looking for a school to have a sincere interest in me and where I’ll have the opportunity to play and get a great education. I also want to be around good people.”

Crump has already taken unofficial visits to Maryland and Rutgers, but he still plans to take officials in September to Michigan and Oregon State, said his AAU coach Mark Matthew of AZ PumpĀ ‘n’ Run.

Matthew says Crump has a great deal to offer whichever program he chooses.

“I think he’s an underrated defender,” Matthew said in a phone interview. “He can defend a two (shooting guard) to a four (power forward). I think he’s an underrated athlete. He’s more explosive than people think. He’s bouncy off one feet, he’s bouncy off two.

“Those are the main areas. He (also) competes every play and he shoots better off the dribble than people give him credit for. He can catch and shoot, and he does attack the basket.”

Matthew said Crump is considering Rutgers and is aware that the Scarlet Knights have two wing players coming in in the next two years.

“Givon is looking at Dane Miller (Class of 2009) and Pat Jackson (Class of 2008),” he said. “They have depth in the wing position. He wants to go somewhere and play and not look over his shoulder. Rutgers looks at him as a primary shooter.

“But he loves (assistant coach) Craig Carter. It’s the Big East and they are rebuilding. They have a lot of pieces and they are recruiting. He takes a look at the wing position. He wants to play with guys he’s familiar with and he might want to be a part of that.”
