NEWPORT, R.I. — There were Saturday nights last year when Mike Teel’s right thumb throbbed so much, the pain was overwhelming.

“For a period of four weeks, it was a nine out of 10, 10 out of 10 [on a scale of 10],” Teel said at Big East media day on Tuesday. “That’s the way it goes. It’s football, it’s a physical game. In other RU news, the AP is reporting that Rutgers is facing two investigations related to improprieties in the athletic department.

The latest revelation: Robert J. Mulcahy, the son of athletic director Robert E. Mulcahy, took a job at a sports marketing firm in 2000 just as the university was finishing negotiating a no-bid contract with the firm, Nelligan Sports Marketing Inc.
