Here’s the latest on Seton Hall recruit Melvyn Oliver. The 6-11, 340-pound Oliver is awaiting word on his eligibility from the NCAA Clearinghouse.

“He’s in summer school at Seton Hall now,” said his former coach, Victor Evans of Mississippi Elite Christian Academy. “They put his last summer school transcript in to the NCAA Clearinghouse. We’re just waiting on them at this point.”

Evans expects Oliver to be qualified.

“In my opinion, I don’t see how he couldn’t be,” Evans said. “We don’t anticipate any problems. It’s just a waiting game, basically. I don’t anticipate any problems.”

Evans said Oliver left Mississippi at about 345-350 pounds.

“His ideal weight is 325,” Evans said. “If he can get to 325 he’ll be able to help. I think the issue with him is what he gets done this summer as far as eligibility. He needs to be ready to perform when he’s out there.”

Evans also coached Robert “Stix” Mitchell at Genesis One. Mitchell will be eligible this year at Seton Hall after transferring from Duquesne.

“He can just flat out shoot it,” Evans said. “He’s a very confident player. He was the A-10 Freshman of the year last year. He was always very confident in his ability.”

Asked if he could potentially play power forward, Evans said: “I don’t see him playing the four. I see him playing the two/three.”

Finally, Evans mentioned that former Paterson CAtholic big man Ian Chiles, who is 6-11, could soon be enrolling at Mississippi Elite Christian Academy.
