Here are some quick notes and links to my stories from the day at the Hoop Group Elite Camp at The College of New Jersey.
**Read my story on 6-11 sophomore big man Malcolm Gilbert of Academy of the New Church at Maxxathlete.com.
Gilbert, who averaged 9 points, 13 rebounds and almost 12 blocks last season, said he already holds offers from Georgia Tech, La Salle, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s, Delaware, Maryland, Notre Dame, Virginia, Xavier, Tennessee and Villanova.
**Here’s another story on Khyle Marshall, a 6-6 wing from Pembroke Pines (Fl.) Flanagan High, who many are calling the top wing at the camp. He has interest from Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Rice, Texas A&M, Missouri and Tennessee.
**St. Patrick 6-8 junior big man and Philly native Markus Kennedy has offers from Villanova, Rutgers and Xavier and interest from Miami, St. John’s, Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State, but says he wants to leave the Northeast for college, which could spell bad news for the local schools. He said Ohio State is his favorite right now. Kennedy was critical in St. Patrick’s victory last month at the Hoop Group Showcase at Rutgers.
**Dalton Pepper, a 6-5 shooting guard from Pennsbury (Pa.) High who is one of the top players in camp, said his list includes Temple, West Virginia, Villanova, Wake Forest and Miami.
“I went to West Virginia last weekend (for an unofficial),” Pepper said. “I worked out with (Devin Ebanks and Kevin Jones) when I went down there. We went out and stuff. I got to know them.”
Pepper also has a connection to Temple in that former teammate Lavoy Allen played there.
As for his timetable on deciding, he said, “Probably at the end July, August.”
