Rutgers target Mitchell Watt has reportedly committed to Buffalo.
Richard Obert of azcentral.com reports that the 6-foot-9 Watt, a senior at Arizona Desert Edge High, picked Buffalo after visiting the school and becoming impressed by its resort management program.
“They can line him up where he can get a degree higher than a Bachelor’s,” Desert Edge coach Joe Babinski told Obert “He can get a Masters and a doctorate’s. They really hit him in the academic part.”
The 6-foot-9 Watt was initially committed to Cornell but chose to de-commit in the wake of interest from Rutgers, Davidson and Pepperdine. He chose Buffalo after visiting the Bills’ hometown last weekend. He was slated to visit Pepperdine the weekend of April 19 and Rutgers the weekend of April 26.
“I really liked the school and the coaching staff and the players a lot,” he said by phone last week. “It was a nice area, Buffalo’s a nice town.”
Watts, also the Student Body President, averaged 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks , 4 assists and 2 steals per game while leading his team to a 28-2 record and the state title. He had nine blocks in the state final, his coach, Joe Babinski, said.
RU has two scholarships remaining and is clearly looking for frontcourt help to complement sophomore C Hamady N’diaye and junior forward JR Inman.
