Former St. Pat’s Mates Gordon, Kidd-Gilchrist to Meet

By Adam Zagoria on March 13, 2012, 11:19PM

The last time Derrick Gordon and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist shared a basketball court they played in the mythical high school national championship game last March at Rutgers.

The former Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick teammates were upset by St. Anthony in that game and their dream of a perfect season and mythical national title came crashing down.

Now, one year later, Gordon and Gilchrist will meet up in the second round of the NCAA Tournament when No. 16 Western Kentucky meets No. 1 Kentucky at 6:50 Thursday evening in Louisville. (more…)

Wright to Pittsburgh; Selby, Odom, Leslie to Visit UConn; David Laury Update; Tobias Harris Hasn’t Committed

By Adam Zagoria on August 09, 2009, 9:45PM

Cameron Wright, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound combo guard from Cleveland (OH) Benedictine who initially committed to Ohio State, committed to Pittsburgh on Sunday night after visiting the school Saturday.

“Yes, I did about an hour ago,” Wright said by phone.

Wright chose Pitt over an impressive slate of schools including Indiana, UCLA, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Cleveland State. Florida and West Virginia also showed interest.

“Pitt was constant,” Wright said. “Their system fitsĀ  my style perfectly. I’m a-pass first team player. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win.” (more…)

Gibbs Says Villanova is His Leader

By Adam Zagoria on June 19, 2009, 9:54AM

***Read the feature on Ashton and Sterling Gibbs here.***

I’m working on a feature story on brothers Ashton and Sterling Gibbs of Scotch Plains, N.J., both of whom are playing for USA Basketball teams this summer.

Check back later for the full story, but I’m posting this college update first.

Sterling, a 6-foot point rising junior guard out of West Orange (NJ) Seton Hall Prep, says Villanova is his leader at this point.

“I would say right now the favorite would be Villanova,” Gibbs said Thursday by phone after he scored 13 points as the U.S. beat Venezuela 102-76 in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Mendoza, Argentina.

“I just like the way that they play and how their guards play. They’re just an open offense. There’s not real set plays. They just like to have players who could just make plays.” (more…)

***UPDATED***

Kyrie Irving, one of the top point guards in theĀ  Class of 2010, took an unofficial visit to UConn this weekend and has changed his list as a result.

“I liked the court and the facilities,” Irving wrote in a text message. “The coaching staff, they were really passionate and informative.”

The 6-foot-1 Irving previously said Indiana was at the top of his list.

UConn, which wasn’t on his list before, now is.

“Yea, they are on my list,” he said.

The new list looks like this: UConn, Georgia Tech, Duke, Indiana, Seton Hall, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Florida, Marquette and Kentucky.

St. Patrick of Elizabeth (N.J.) Coach Kevin Boyle has high praise for Irving. (more…)
