Hazell to Play in Summer League With Hawks

By Adam Zagoria on May 21, 2012, 2:33PM

Former Seton Hall guard Jeremy Hazell will play for the Atlanta Hawks in the Las Vegas Summer League, according to a Tweet by his agent, Seth Cohen.

“They’ve been high on Jeremy for a while and they want him to travel straight from mini-camp to the Vegas Summer League,” Cohen told SNY.tv. by phone.

The mini-camp runs July 9-12 and then he plays in the Summer League from July 13-22.

Hazell participated in training camp with the Phoenix Suns a year ago and then was invited to join their D-League affiliate for the postseason.

A 6-5, 180-pound guard, Hazell played briefly with Lucentum Alicante in Spain. An All-Big East Third Team selection, Hazell averaged 19.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.4 steals in 18 games his senior season in 2010-11. He finished his career ranked third all-time in scoring at Seton Hall with 2,146 points and set a Big East Conference record with 201 made three-pointers in conference games.

“He may visit Sunday or early next week,” Moore said of the 6-foot-6 Goodman, an athletic 2012 wing. “They feel he can do what Jeff [Robinson] did there.”

‘Done deal, Sterling is a Pirate’

By Adam Zagoria on April 19, 2012, 5:56PM

“Done deal, Sterling is a Pirate.”

That’s what a Seton Hall source told SNY.tv at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Texas transfer was on campus all day Thursday and multiple current and former players earlier said Gibbs had decided to join the program.

Gibbs, who has an ill family member, would have to obtain a hardship waiver — similar to what Lamont “Momo” Jones did at Iona — in order to suit up next year.

“Congrats to my bro @SterlingGibbs13. He’s finally a Pirate!” Tweeted outgoing point guard Jordan Theodore. (more…)

Former Texas point guard Sterling Gibbs is currently on his official visit to Seton Hall, sources told SNY.tv.

The former Seton Hall Prep standout averaged 2.6 points and 0.7 assists in 7.5 minutes per game this season at Texas.

“I’ve had a great year at Texas,” Gibbs said when announcing his transfer. “I’ve improved as a basketball player and as a person during my time here. If my decision had to do with basketball only, I would not be leaving Texas. But my decision is family-related and involves more than basketball.”

St. Patrick coach Chris Chavannes says he doesn’t know where Western Kentucky guard Derrick Gordon will wind up, but he’d like to see him come home to Seton Hall.

“For me personally, I’d love to see him come home,” Chavannes told SNY.tv Friday by phone. “It would be very beneficial to him. Jeff Robinson came home [from Memphis] and had a great end of his college career. This would help both ways, both basketball-wise and for his family.” (more…)

In the last organized basketball game they played, the Seton Hall senior duo of Jordan Theodore and Herb Pope lost an NIT game to UMass in the cozy confines of Walsh Gym.

With both players now at the Portsmouth Invitational in front of a slew of NBA scouts, Pope sprained his ankle Thursday night after managing just 4 points and 4 rebounds and is done for the rest of the event.
