“It was nice when I went out there,” the 6-foot-4 Lamb said Monday by phone. “It was hot. The team was good. I like the campus and everything and all that. I’m thinking about going there.”

Lamb saw the Wildcats fall to Washington State, 78-76, Friday night.

“They lost to Washington State on a buzzer-beater,” he said.

Lamb said Arizona coach Sean Miller told him he could come in and play 30-35 minutes a game in the backcourt and that Arizona had produced a large number of NBA players.

“He said I’d be playing the point,” Lamb said. “I could play 30-35 minutes and the ball would be in my hands.”

Arizona point guard Nic Wise is set to graduate this year, while Lamont “Momo” Jones, Lamb’s former Oak Hill teammate, is currently a freshman off guard.

Lamb also has a relationship with Arizona assistant Book Richardson but said that wouldn’t be a deciding factor for him.

“I’ve known him for a long time. He coached me in AAU,” Lamb said. “But that don’t mean anything [about a decision].”

Lamb is also considering Kentucky, Kansas, UConn and Oklahoma.

He said he was looking for “a good coaching staff, a winning program and somewhere that I feel like home and I feel comfortable.”

Asked when he might decide, Lamb said, “Probably April.”

Josh Selby, a combo guard out of Lake Baltimore (Md.) Clifton, came in on his Arizona visit after Lamb departed.

“He came in after I left. We’re cool,” he said.

Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star reported that Selby was on court at the McHale Center shooting threes an hour after Sunday’s win over Washington.

“I know the student section wasn’t here but it still seemed like a real good crowd,” Maeshon Witherspoon, Selby’s mom, told Pascoe: “We know they’re [the Wildcats] kind of young.”

Asked if the two could play together, Lamb said, “I have no idea.”

Sterling Gibbs, a point guard out of Seton Hall Prep pictured at left, Myles Mack of Paterson (N.J.) Catholic and Tyler Harris of Half Hollow (N.Y.) Hills West were all behind the Pirates bench at the Prudential Center.

“It was a good game,” Mack said. “Seton Hall pulled it out. I love the atmosphere but when the student body gets back it’s going to be better.”

The 5-10 Mack has not officially been offered yet by Seton Hall, but sources said head coach Bobby Gonzalez planned to offer him. He has led Paterson Catholic to a Top 10 ranking nationally.

Asked if he had any favorites, Mack said, “Not really, no favorites.”

**Gibbs says his current list includes Seton Hall, Providence, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Virginia, Rutgers, Villanova, Florida and Wake Forest and that he hopes to visit Florida and Wake Forest soon.

“Florida and Wake Forest are involved. Providence recently got involved,” Panthers coach Gary Charles said. “No dates are set. Everything right now is unofficial.”

**The 6-8 Harris holds offers from UConn, West Virginia, Seton Hall, Hofstra, Fordham and Delaware and interest from Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Maryland and South Florida. He and his father plan to attend Wednesday’s Syracuse at Rutgers game to check out the Orange.

**6-3 Plainfield junior point guard Tyrone Johnson did not make the game but plans to visit Virginia Tech and West Virginia, in addition to Rutgers, Seton Hall and Villanova, when he has a break in his schedule.

**Seton Hall is also involved with 6-10 center Maurice Walker of Brewster (N.H.) Prep.

“He’s hearing from a lot of schools right now, such as Pitt, Seton Hall, Oklahoma, Marquette, Kansas, LSU, etc.,” Brewster coach Jason Smith wrote by text. “He’s from Toronto. He will take visits in the spring after the Final Four.”

**In other recruiting news, the Arizona Daily Star reports that Rice forward Kadeem Jack will visit Arizona Jan. 26-27.

Jack holds offers from St. John’s, Seton Hall, Florida and Arizona, and Florida International coach Isiah Thomas has called, Rice coach Moe Hicks said.

“He has no favorite right now,” Hicks said. “He’s not going to do anything until late.”

**Duke-bound point guard Kyrie Irving dropped 30 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists Sunday as St. Patrick downed Trenton Catholic, 78-52, in the Scholarship Fund for Inner-Children Festival at Kean University’s Harwood Arena in Union, according to The Star-Ledger. The Celtics continue to play without junior Mike Gilchrist, out two weeks with a right knee strain.

Markeese Tucker had 17 and Frantz Massenat 15 for TC.

**St. Bonaventure-bound PG Elijah Carter dropped 19 points and Richmond commit Derrick Williams had 12 points and 7 boards in the same event when St. Anthony beat NIA Prep, 62-51. The Friars continue to play without 6-8 Oregon State-bound F Devon Collier (academics) and 6-8 Maryland commit Ashton Pankey (shin splints).

**Texas-bound junior guard Myck Kabongo of St. Benedict’s dropped 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and Rutgers commit Gil Biruta added 18 as the Gray Bees crushed Our Saviour, 95-63. Mike Poole added 17 points and Arizona commit Sidiki Johnson had 7.

**St. John’s-bound forward Ronald Roberts scored a game-high 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists to lead St. Peter’s Prep over Hudson Catholic, 77-42.

Syracuse and Indiana are also in the mix.

UConn has recently gotten back into the mix and several reports from the UConn reporters indicated that assistant coach Andre LaFleur watched Selby in Friday’s game.

Doron Lamb, a combo guard out of Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, visited Arizona Thursday-Saturday.

Selby’s mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, told Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star that the date is not yet confirmed because she must check with his coaches.

“There has been talk about possibly setting a date, but I don’t know where that’s going to go, because they had a lot of time invested in Ray McCallum,” Witherspoon told Pascoe. “Arizona is no different than other schools right now calling to get in on Josh. … Josh is open to everybody.”

Selby decommitted from Tennessee last summer and recently cut his list to Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse and Indiana.

“It’s style of play, coaching, looking for a family with in the coaching staff, chemistry and can they win?” Witherspoon said. “Josh is a real big family guy.”

Arizona assistant Book Richardson went to watch him play for Baltimore (Md.) Lake Clifton last weekend and now Selby will visit the school next month.

“Josh has everything you look for in an elite talent,” Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com told the Baltimore Sun. “It’s really a combination of three things: athleticism, high skills and competitiveness. He has all those characteristics. There’s no telling how good he can be. He has a chance to be a one-and-done college player, an All-American type who can be a longtime pro that goes on to play in [ NBA] All-Star games.”

Arizona will also get a visit that weekend from Oak Hill (Va.) Academy combo guard Doron Lamb. The Wildcats face Washington State Jan. 8 and Washington Jan. 10

Lamb is considering Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma and UConn. West Virginia has also recently gotten involved and head coach Bob Huggins is due to visit this week.

Witherspoon told Pascoe her son would not mind playing with Lamb.

“Josh is not afraid to play against or with anybody.” Witherspoon said. “They respect each other’s game… Doron would be a complementary. They both can play with the ball and both can play off the ball. When you have two people who respect each other’s games, who knows?”

The 6-foot-4 Lamb, a Queens, N.Y., native playing at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, will likely visit Arizona in early January, either Jan. 7-9 or 8-10.

“Probably, I don’t know the date yet,” Lamb said by phone from Paducah, Ky. where Oak Hill (7-0) is at the Marshall County Hoopfest for Saturday’s game with Jackson (Miss.) Calloway.

Lamb, the No. 3 shooting guard in the Class of 2010, said he had watched Arizona play recently in the Maui Invitational.

“I watched Arizona play in Hawaii but I don’t know,” he said.

Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said West Virginia was also making a late push for Lamb.

“West Virginia is trying to get a visit also,” Smith said.

Lamb said West Virginia assistant Larry Harrison came to Oak Hill last week to meet with him and that Mounties head coach Bob Huggins would come next week.

“West Virginia, they need a combo guard,” Lamb said. ”[Harrison said] a lot of people are leaving for that spot. He said I could come in and fit in the system and play right away.”

Lamb said he had watched West Virginia recently on TV. The Mountaineers won the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., over the holiday weekend.

“I watched them,” Lamb said. “They’re good. I like their system, the motion offense.”

Lamb has already visited Kentucky, Kansas, Oklahoma and UConn and opted not to sign last month during the early signing period.

He and 6-9 teammate Roscoe Smith will both sign in the spring. Smith is considering Duke, Georgetown and UConn.

***UPDATED 12/7***

Meantime, Arizona assistant Book Richardson is in Baltimore this weekend to watch Lake Baltimore (Md.) guard Josh Selby in his season opener.

He will take a visit to Arizona Jan. 9-10.

Selby initially committed to Tennessee and then de-committed. He recently cut his list to Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana and Syracuse.

“Josh has everything you look for in an elite talent,” Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com, who ranks Selby fourth in the country overall and the No. 2 point guard, told the Baltimore Sun. “It’s really a combination of three things: athleticism, high skills and competitiveness. He has all those characteristics. There’s no telling how good he can be. He has a chance to be a one-and-done college player, an All-American type who can be a longtime pro that goes on to play in [ NBA] All-Star games.”
