D’Antoni Can’t Wait for Jorts to Return

NEW YORK — Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni is missing Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire.

But he’s also hoping Jorts returns soon, too.

“I had no idea I’d be sitting here saying I can’t wait till Josh Harrellson gets back,” D’Antoni said Friday night at MSG before the Knicks host Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. (more…)

Steve Novak’s Success Overshadowed by Linsanity

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — If you believe everything you read these days, Jeremy Lin is single-handedly responsible for the Knicks’ modest three-game winning streak.

And Steve Novak will be the first to give Linsanity its just due.

“Everyone’s been able to see how valuable [he is], the way he gets in the paint on offense and finds guys, how valuable that is,” Novak, whose team meets Kobe Bryant and the Lakers tonight at Madison Square Garden, said earlier this week at the Knicks training facility.

Novak, perhaps more than any other Knick, has benefitted from Lin’s passing. (more…)

Jeremy Lin Crosses Over John Wall

In case you missed it, here’s Jeremy Lin’s crossover of John Wall and subsequent dunk. Lin finished with 23 points and a career-high 10 assists in the Knicks’ 107-93 rout in Washington.

The Knicks are now 3-0 since Linsanity began Saturday night against the Nets. Lin has scored 20+ points in three straight games.

“If you love sports you have to love what Jeremy Lin is doing,” Steve Nash Tweeted. “Getting an opportunity and exploding!!”

Stoudemire to Return to Knicks Monday

Amar’e Stoudemire will return to the Knicks Monday, head coach Mike D’Antoni announced Wednesday.

Stoudemire remains in Florida grieving the loss of his older brother, Hazell, who was killed this past Monday in a car crash.

Stoudemire will miss Friday’s home game against the Lakers and Saturday’s game in Minnesota, but would be available for Tuesday’s tilt at Toronto.

Carmelo Anthony remains out 1-2 weeks with a right groin strain. (more…)

Knicks’ Fields Honored; Shumpert Excluded

Knicks guard Landry Fields was selected to the Rising Stars Challenge over All-Star Weekend, but Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni can’t believe that rookie Iman Shumpert was not.

“I was shocked [Shumpert] didn’t make it,’’ D’Antoni told reporters before the Knicks’ 107-93 victory over the Wizards. “Not taking anything away from other guys.”

According to the New York Post, D’Antoni was informed that assistant coaches did the voting.

“Could be a reason why they’re assistants,” D’Antoni said. “Because he plays as well as anybody. Iman deserved to be on it. It’s too bad.” (more…)

Former Knicks Billups, Gallo Injured

Two former Knicks have been sidelined with serious injuries.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Chauncey Billups, whom the Knicks amnestied in order to sign center Tyson Chandler, is done for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon.

And Danilo Gallinari, who was dealt last February in the Carmelo Anthony trade, is out a month with a badly sprained left ankle.

Billups injury occurred during the Clippers’ 107-102 overtime victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday night. (more…)

Stoudemire Out ‘A Few Days’ After Brother’s Death

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Communicating publicly for the first time since his older brother’s death Monday in a car accident in Florida, Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire said he plans to be out a “few days” while grieving with his family.

“I am humbled by all of the thoughts and prayers I have received,” he said in a statement. “Thank you for all of the support. I am going to take a few days to be with my family and grieve the loss of my big brother, Hazell Stoudemire. Although it is not clear to me now, I hope to make some good come from our tragedy.”

Stoudemire took an indefinite leave of absence Monday after learning of the tragic news and missed the Knicks’ 99-88 victory over the Utah Jazz. (more…)

Knicks Move Forward Without Melo, Amar’e

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — If you bought a ticket for Wednesday’s Knicks-Wizards game expecting to see superstars Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, you appear to be out of luck.

The Knicks announced Tuesday that Anthony is out 1-2 weeks with a strained right groin sustained in the first quarter of Monday’s 99-88 win over the Utah Jazz at MSG.

Stoudemire is on an indefinite leave from the team following the death of his old brother, Hazell, Monday in a car crash in Florida. The team had no update on his status Tuesday. Following Wednesday’s game, the Knicks host Kobe Bryant and the Lakers Friday. (more…)

Knicks Lin Would Have Considered Going Overseas

— There were times in recent weeks when Jeremy Lin wondered whether he’d ever get a real shot in the NBA.

“Of course, of course, that’s definitely going to cross my mind,” Lin, a Harvard grad and one of the first Asian-Americans in the NBA, said Monday night in the Knicks locker room.

After both the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets waived him in December, the Knicks took a flyer on Lin because they needed another point guard in the wake of of Baron Davis’s back injury. (more…)

D’Antoni Rips Fans Who Boo Jeffries

NEW YORK — Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni has a message for fans who repeatedly boo Jared Jeffries anytime he misses a layup.

“Anybody who boos Jared Jeffries has got to re-examine their life a little bit,” D’Antoni said following the Knicks 99-88 victory over the Utah Jazz at MSG.

“I love our fans and I like Madison Square Garden, the arena, but here’s a guy who came back to us, minimum contract. He could’ve gone to a lot of other teams. He plays as hard as anybody could possibly ever play, with injuries, everything you ask him. He takes every charge, every dirty play, every rebound. He works every second.” (more…)
