Mississippi State freshman guard Rodney Hood is transferring

“Obviously, we are disappointed in Rodney’s decision,” head coach Rick Ray, who was hired one week ago, told The Associated Press. “I was looking forward to getting a chance to develop and coach him. This decision, unfortunately, was made before my hire. The Hoods were forthright and honest about where they were when I met with them, and I appreciate their honesty. (more…)

Sidney Nixed from MSU Europe Trip

By Adam Zagoria on July 22, 2011, 4:02PM

The rocky college career of Renardo Sidney has hit another speed bump.

Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury opted not to bring Sidney, a 6-foot-10 junior forward, on a tour of the Netherlands, Belgium and France during the first two weeks of August.

Instead, Sidney, who has battled injuries, weight issues and off-the-court concerns, will return to Houston to work out with the former NBA player and coach John Lucas.

“Renardo Sidney has returned to Houston, Texas, to continue working out with John Lucas,” Stansbury said in a statement. “He will not accompany the team to Europe next month, but he is expected back on campus for the start of the fall semester in mid-August.”

“Everybody has their own opinion but I’m doing what I have to do,” Sidney told The Clarion-Ledger. “There’s nothing else going on. They can say what they want to say but, like I said, I know what I have to do basketball-wise. I wasn’t ready to go and I felt like I really wasn’t in shape. I wanted to come back down here and get some more work.”

By Adam Zagoria on January 03, 2011, 9:02PM

Mississippi State junior forward Elgin Bailey (pictured) will transfer and and sophomore forward Renardo Sidney has fulfulled his suspension. The two were involved in a fistfight in the stands Dec. 23 in Hawaii.

“Elgin told me of his plans to transfer, and we wish him the best as he moves on,” MSU head coach Rick Stansbury said. “Elgin has had to deal with some very tough injuries, but he’s worked very hard to get to where he is now. Wherever he ends up, I hope he’s able to have a lot of success.

“As for this team, it’s time to move on and learn from these mistakes. Hopefully, by sending Sid and Elgin home following the incident, a strong message was sent that this type of behavior is unacceptable.”

Bailey, a native of New Orleans, appeared in 74 games during his career at Mississippi State and recorded 229 points and 161 rebounds to go along with his 44 blocked shots. (more…)
