Things Are Bright in Bloomington

In case you missed it, Indiana is now 11-0 and off to its best start since the 1975-6 team went unbeaten and captured the national championship under Bob Knight.

The No. 17 Hoosiers crushed Howard, 107-50, Monday night and put six players into double-figures in scoring. Jordan Hulls led Indiana with 16 points and Cody Zeller added 12.

“Our guys were on it,” head coach Tom Crean said. “They were ready to play, excited to play and excited to join some elite company. When there are only a few teams in the illustrious history of this program that have done something (like going 11-0), they wanted to join that group.” (more…)

Indiana Self-Reports Harris Violation

Indiana self reported a secondary NCAA rules violation related to elite shooting guard Gary Harris, ESPN.com reported.

The school issued a statement conceding that head coach Tom Crean committed a violation by visiting an unnamed student-athlete in Indianapolis Oct. 6. The contact period ended Oct. 5, meaning coaches could not meet with players after that date.

“Coach Crean immediately reported an inadvertent recruiting contact violation to our compliance office, and we are following our normal procedures,” the school said in a statement. (more…)

Gary Harris Recruiting Update

Gary Harris, the No. 6 shooting guard in the Class of 2012, hasn’t cut his list but says five schools are recruiting him the hardest.

“Haven’t cut any yet,” he said by text.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard out of Fishers (Ind.) Hamilton Southeastern said Indiana, Michigan State, Louisville, Notre Dame and Purdue are “recruiting me the hardest.”

Still, Harris said Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua has also been in touch “a little bit.”

As for when he may decide, Harris said he he plans to discuss his recruitment with his parents over the summer and has “no timetable” at the moment.

Nigerian Combo Guard Aniefiok Nearing Decision

Maurice Aniefiok, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound combo guard originally from Nigeria, has begun a series of visits and hopes to decide on April 25.

Aniefiok leaves today for an official visit to James Madison that runs through Saturday. After that he will take officials to Ole Miss (April 14) and Duquesne (April 21).

Indiana has also offered and Rutgers just did as well. (more…)

Latest on Jamari Traylor & DeAndre Daniels

With March Madness in full swing, let’s not forget that there are still a few high-profile uncommitted players on the board.

Two of them are at IMG Academies in Jamari Traylor and DeAndre Daniels.

The 6-foot-7 Traylor holds offers from Kansas, Indiana, Tennessee , Mississippi State and VCU.

“Those are the schools that have shown the most serious interest in Jamari,” IMG Basketball Director Andy Borman said. “Indiana has been down on campus twice in the last two weeks with Coach [Tom] Crean coming [Monday]. Kansas was here last week for his Senior night. Mississippi State should be here [Wednesday or Thursday]. (more…)

McCrory Eyes Decision in Coming Months

Eugene McCrory, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward who was once committed to Seton Hall, has a number of scholarship offers and hopes to decide in the coming months.

“I’m going to decide in January or February,” he said by text.

McCrory, who has dropped more than 30 pounds since the summer, holds offers from Wagner, Texas Southern, Hofstra, St. Bonaventure and Northeastern, according to Ian Turnbull of CJEOTO, where McCrory is averaging 21.4 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks on a postgrad team that also includes Rutgers signee Kadeem Jack. Anderson Visits RU; Hall Falls to Xavier; IU Lands Two

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The best news for Rutgers fans coming out of Sunday may not have been the team’s 16-point drilling of Miami at home.

No, the best news was that Kyle Anderson was there to see it.

The 6-foot-8 Anderson sat about 10 rows up behind the basket with his mother, Suzanne. He had a perfect view of Dane Miller’s breakaway dunk that sent the student section into a frenzy late in the game. (more…)

Cody Zeller to Indiana

In what can’t come as a shock to many, 6-foot-10 center Cody Zeller has chosen Indiana over Butler and North Carolina.

“Until about a week ago, I didn’t know it was right,” Zeller said during the announcement, according to the Indianapolis Star. “Next year, I’m going to go to IU. The biggest thing was the players and the coaches. They had a good combination of the two.”

“I knew it was the right thing for me,” Zeller added. “It was a tough process, but I enjoyed it. … I didn’t tell hardly anyone.”

Zeller, out of Washington (Indiana), is the No. 4 rated power forward in the Class of 2011, per Rivals.com. (more…)

Wilson to Marquette; Zeller to Announce Thursday

Derrick Wilson, a a 6-foot-1 guard from Anchorage, AK, has verbally committed to Marquette over Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and DePaul.

“When I went to my official to Marquette I fell in love with  everything about it,” Wilson said by text. “The coaches and players are all great people. I like what they had to offer academically and I feel I can really contribute to the basketball program.”

Hanner Perea to Indiana

Hanner Perea, a 6-foot-8, 212-pound power forward originally from Colombia, verbally committed to Indiana over Baylor Sunday after a visit to campus.

“Oh, yes I did,” Perea, the No. 4 power forward in the Class of 2012, said by phone.

“I like them,” he added. “The No. 1 thing I like about it is the coach. All the coaching staff and Coach [Tom] Crean. I love the way he coach everything. I love the way he is. I like the team.”

Perea, out of La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere School, joins 6-2 shooting guard Ron Patterson and 6-11 center Peter Jurkin among Hoosiers’ recruits for 2012. (more…)
