Florida State Lands 7-Foot-3 Bojanovsky

Boris Bojanovsky, a 7-foot-3 native of the Slovak Republic, has committed to Florida State for 2012.

He also held offers from N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Miami, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and others.

“This was always the goal for me when I came to CBA three years ago,” Bojanovksy said, according to the Canarias Basketball Academy website.

“My dream has come true, to know Ill be playing in the ACC under a great coach and at a power house program, I can only thank Rob Orellana and his coaching staff for pushing me everyday to make this dream become a reality.”

FSU’s Singleton Works Out for Knicks

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Whether or not LeBron James and the Miami Heat win the NBA championship, they figure to be a major stumbling block for the Knicks over the next several years in the Eastern Conference.

With that in mind, the organization is looking at defensive-minded wings who can help contain stars like James and Dwyane Wade.

One such wing, 6-foot-8 1/2, 230-pound Chris Singleton of Florida State worked out Thursday for the Knicks, along with point guards Iman Shumpert of Georgia Tech and Charles Jenkins of Hofstra. (more…)

Ajayi Still Mulling Final Visits

Lekan Ajayi, a 6-foot-11 center from Quality Education (N.C.), has just returned from his official to Loyola Marymount and is still planning his final two visits.

“I went to California,” he said of the trip to LMU. “It was nice. They have a good business management course. The school is not a big population school, it’s a medium school, with 14-20 [students] per class.

“It’s good out there, very close to the Los Angeles Lakers arena. It’s nice. The L.A. weather is nice, like Nigerian weather. I like it out there, too.”

Ajayi also said he set a new Quality Education record with 24 rebounds when the Fighting Pharoahs beat LaPorte (IN) La Lumiere, 55-48, Saturday in the NCSAA Division 1 Championship Saturday in Erie, Pa. (more…)

Rodney Hood to Announce This Week (UPDATED)

Rodney Hood, the No. 7 small forward in the Class of 2011, will announce on Wednesday at noon CST, according to Meridian High (Miss.) coach Randy Bolden.

Bolden said Hood will choose from among Florida State, Mississippi State, Louisville, Marquette and Alabama.

“At this point it’s pretty much him doing some soul-searching deciding what he wants to do,” Bolden said. (more…)

Miller, Bello Talk Recruiting Plans

Quincy Miller and Deuce Bello are back from their weekend trip to Baylor and have more visits planned.

The 6-foot-9 1/2, 190-pound Miller, the No. 1 power forward in the Class of 2011, now has a top four schools.

“I narrowed it down to four — Baylor, Duke, Louisville and Oklahoma,” Miller said Wednesday by phone.

Asked if he had any favorites, Miller replied: “Baylor and Louisville are slightly in the lead and Duke is right behind and then Oklahoma.” (more…)

Jabarie Hinds to Cut List in August

Mount Vernon (N.Y.) has churned out a slew of Division 1 players in recent years, from Jonathan Mitchell to Mike Coburn to Kevin Jones to Sherrod Wright.

The latest is rising senior point guard Jabarie Hinds, ranked No. 23 at his position nationally by Rivals.

Hinds recently added Boston College to a long list of suitors that also includes Cincinnati, Florida State, Iona, Louisville, Miami, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, St. John’s, UConn, UNLV, Villanova, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

“He’s just taking everything in,” Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino said. “He will chop the list the first week in August and make plans for official visits.”

Hinds will be in Orlando beginning Friday with the Westchester Hawks for the AAU Nationals.

Report: Enes Kanter Opens It Up

Enes Kanter, the 6-foot-10 Turkish star who initially committed to Washington, has decided to open it up and consider other schools, according to Scout.com.

Calls to Tank Thornton, Kanter’s coach at Simi Valley (Calif.) Stoneridge Prep, were not immediately returned Tuesday night.

The Scout story listed Syracuse, Florida State and Kentucky as three schools Kanter was considering, but a source close to the Syracuse program said he wasn’t familiar with the recruitment.

Kanter initially chose Washington over Indiana, UNLV, USC and UCLA back in November.

He recently dropped 50 points and 20 boards in a game, according to Scout. (more…)

Harkless to Announce Wednesday; St. John’s Leads for Grace

Maurice Harkless, a 6-foot-7 junior wing from Forest Hills High School, will announce his college choice Dec. 9 on SNY.tv.

Harkless is currently considering Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Louisville, UConn, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence, Arizona, Florida State, Hofstra, Villanova, and Rutgers.

He has not committed to UConn, despite a published report to the contrary.

“Maurice Harkless is still narrowing down his college choices,” said Nathan Blue, his AAU coach. “Any talk of him being committed is premature.  I, along with his high school coach and mother, will be making sure he’s comfortable about what school he chooses on Wednesday on SNY.” (more…)

Selby Adds In-Homes, Indiana in the Mix; Rivers Visiting Duke; Coach K, Calhoun Visiting Smith

Now that Indiana is out of the Kyrie Irving Sweepstakes, look for Tom Crean’s staff to make a hard push for Irving’s buddy Josh Selby.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Selby out of Baltimore (Md.) Lake Clifton will get an in-home visit from Indiana Sept. 22.

“That’s correct,” said his mother, Maeshon Witherspoon. “They’re coming in for an in-home visit.”

Witherspoon has known Indiana assistant Roshown McLeod for several years.

Selby, who this summer decommitted from Tennessee, will host Miami Sept. 21, Indiana Sept. 22, Syracuse Sept. 23 and Kentucky Sept. 24. (more…)

Drummond Has ‘Unlimited Potential’; Josh Selby Adds In-Homes

St. Thomas More (Conn.) coach Jere Quinn has coached some very talented players in his day.

Quincy Douby and Devin Ebanks to name a few.

Now Quinn is coaching Andre Drummond, a 6-foot-11 man-child who is the consensus No. 1 player in the Class of 2012 and an early pick to be the top choice in the 2013 NBA Draft. (Photo at left courtesy NBADraft.net)

“Everybody’s looking at the kid. I guess he’s the No.1  ranked sophomore in the country,” Quinn said.
