Roscoe Smith, a 6-7 small forward out of Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, will visit Duke unofficially Sept. 6, according to his father, Brian Thompson

Thompson said the following schools are recruiting his son and would have in-home visits: UConn, Duke, UCLA, Maryland, Georgetown, Florida and Kentucky.

“I’m going to pick out the school that I’m going to commit to going on the middle of my Oak Hill season,” Roscoe, the No. 31 player in the Rivals150 and the No. 6 SF in the Class of 2010, told me earlier this month at the Boost Mobile event in New York.

He said he transferred to Oak Hill to improve and prepare for college.

“I just wanted to be around great players,” he said. ”I think me going to Oak Hill will step my game up more and get me ready for college life.

“I just want to try and win a national championship for [head coach] Steve Smith and other Oak Hill alumni.”

GASTON ELIGIBLE AT FORDHAM

Fordham got some huge news this week when it learned that 6-7 recruit Chris Gaston had officially qualified. Gaston, who played for both Bob Hurley at St. Anthony and Dan Hurley at St. Benedict’s as well as at New Hampton (N.H.) Prep, could be a major factor for the Rams as they try to rebuild. Gaston had a monster summer on the AAU circuit in 2008 and joins an incoming class that also includes Lance Brown of Paterson Catholic.

Both players opted for Fordham in part because of their relationship with sophomore point guard Jio Fontan, a Paterson native who starred at St. Anthony. After initially saying he wouldn’t return to campus, Fontan is back at Fordham. Fordham will have three St. Anthony players in the fold this year with Gaston, Fontan and Alberto Estwick.

The Rams will also have unofficial visits from a slew of talented local products: Myles Mack, Myles Davis, Jarrod Davis, Jarelle Reischel and Sean Grennan.

COUGARS TRIP TO ‘CUSE

Speaking of Paterson Catholic, head coach Damon Wright took six players to the Syracuse Elite Camp: Mack, Kyle Anderson, Jermaine Peart, Jhamir White, Reggie Cameron and Kavon Stewart.

“They like Myles and will follow him this year,” Wright said of his talented 5-8 junior point guard. “Coach [Mike Hopkins] saw that he has potential for the Cuse.

“Anderson was a stud in the camp. He played all five positions and did it well. Coach [Jim] Boeheim liked him. The rising frosh Kavon Stewart also caught the eye of the coaching staff.”

VARNADO INJURED

Mississippi State star Jarvis Varnado was hospitalized Monday for tests after falling ill during a morning workout, according to the Clarion-Ledger of Miss.

“He’s fine,” MSU coach Rick Stansbury was quoted as saying in a news release from the school. “We expect him back at full speed very shortly. We’re just being very cautious.”

ST. BEN’S HOSTING CLINIC

St. Ben’s coach Dan Hurley has once again put together a tremendous roster of coaches for his Sept. 25 coaches clinic in Newark.

Arizona coach Sean Miller, Villanova coach Jay Wright, Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, Temple coach Fran Dunphy and former NBA coaches Jeff Van Gundy and Hubie Brown will all be on hand.

ERIN ANDREWS TO TALK WITH OPRAH WINFREY

(AP) — ESPN reporter Erin Andrews said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that having secretly videotaped nude footage of her distributed on the Internet was a “nightmare.”

Winfrey’s interview with Andrews will air Friday, Sept. 11, as part of a “Summer Headlines” show that previews the 24th season of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Andrews also tells Winfrey she “opened up the computer [and] could feel my heart pounding.”

Andrews’ attorney has said the blurry five-minute video was shot at a hotel without her knowledge and she plans to seek criminal charges and file lawsuits against whoever shot the video and anyone who publishes it.

The reporter also says she’s excited to get back to work this fall, adding “it’s really going to help me heal my wounds.”

Andrews will be working on air Thursday night for the first time since the video became widespread news. She’ll be the sideline reporter for ESPN’s broadcast of South Carolina at North Carolina State.

It was not clear when the video of Andrews in the hotel room first appeared on the Internet. The person who first posted the video didn’t identify the nude woman, and Andrews’ attorney later confirmed the video was of the 31-year-old reporter.

Here’s a few quick headlines from Friday’s action…

**Erin Andrews’ attorneys have issued the following statement about the grainy video of Andrews naked in a hotel room that is circulating on the Internet.

LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 17 /PRNewswire/ — With respect to recent Internet postings of Erin Andrews, she has authorized her attorney, Marshall B. Grossman of Bingham McCutchen LLP, to issue the following statement:

“While alone in the privacy of her hotel room, Erin Andrews was surreptitiously videotaped without her knowledge or consent. She was the victim of a crime and is taking action to protect herself and help ensure that others are not similary violated in the future. Although the perpetrator or perpetrators of this criminal act have not yet been identified, when they are identified she intends to bring both civil and criminal charges against them and against anyone who has published the material. We request respect of Erin’s privacy at this time, while she and her representatives are working with the authorities.”

**Roger Federer and his wife, Mirka, are the proud parents of twin girls.

Charlene Riva Federer and Myla Rose Federer arrived late Thursday evening in Switzerland.

It will be interesting to see if fatherhood slows Fed, the winner of a record 15 Grand Slam titles, down, but we still say he’s the favorite to win his 6th straight U.S. Open later this summer in Flushing Meadows.

**It sounds like Reggie Rose, the older brother of Bulls guard Derrick Rose, went a little nuts Friday in Las Vegas. Read Jeff Goodman’s tale here.

But the other side of the coin is that Grassroots Canada, coached by Ro Russell and led by Texas commit Tristan Thompson, is on a monster run this summer. Gary Parrish has that story here.

For more on Thompson and Canada, read my piece from earlier this week here.

Radio City Music Hall, that is.

New Jersey guys made up seven of the 32 first-round picks in Saturday’s NFL Draft.

OT Eugene Monroe of Virginia went at No. 8 to Jacksonville; DT B.J. Raji of Boston College was picked No. 9 by Green Bay; RB Knowshon Moreno of Georgia went No. 12 to Denver; CB Malcolm Jenkins of Ohio State went No. 14 to New Orleans; and LB Brian Cushing of Southern Cal was selected No. 15 by Houston.

Later, RB Donald Brown of UConn went No. 27 to New Orleans and WR Kenny Britt of Rutgers was chosen at No. 30 by Tennessee.

“It’s good to have a New Jersey crew out there in the draft,” Moreno said the other day. “Coaches need to start recruiting up here in New Jersey a little more.”

New Jersey football gets a little bit of a knock sometimes, but I think we’re showing them today what New Jersey football is all about.”

Some projected that Moreno would fall to No. 21 and go to the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Broncos gobbled up yet another Georgia tailback. Terrell Davis, another Georgia product, also played for Denver.

“You know, a lot of teams needed [running] backs, but I didn’t know what was going to happen. But once I got that call, got that idea and [Head Coach Josh McDaniels) told me about it, about that they [the Broncos] were going to take me, I was so excited about the situation and to be a part of the team now,” Moreno said

Said Antonucci: “Denver showed some interest. I had some early conversations with them. They worked him out two or three times. Everybody kept talking about the Eagles and the Jets but I was happy to see it go down with the Broncos.”

Cushing, who starred at Bergen Catholic in North Jersey and was on the cover of Sports Illustrated this past week, got the phone call from Houston just before he was picked.

“I’m thrilled to be there, too,” Cushing told Erin Andrews of ESPN. “I was waiting a little while in the back room, but I kind of expected that. But it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, I’m more than happy to do this.”

Asked what the Texans saw in him, Cushing said: “Just a versatile player. I can play any of the three linebacker positions. Just a hard-working guy, I feel no one will ever outwork me.”

Brown, who led the nation in rushing at 2,083 yards and 18 touchdowns, went No. 27 overall to the Colts. he played Pee Wee football with Moreno on the Atlantic Highland Tigers.

“I’m happy, I’m relieved, I’m excited,” Brown said, according to Colts.com.

Colts President Bill Polian called Brown, “A scintillating player.”

“He catches the ball, blocks . . .” Polian told Colts.com. “We lost [veteran running back] Dominic Rhodes [as an unrestricted free agent]. We replaced him with Donald Brown.”

He added: “He was, in our opinion, the best player left. Interestingly enough, everything went exactly as we thought it would.”

Britt became the sixth Scarlet Knight drafted in the last three years, following second-round picks Brian Leonard (2007) and Ray Rice (2008).

“The Tennessee Titans are getting a tremendous person and player in Kenny Britt,” said Rutgers head football coach Greg Schiano. “Kenny proved to be one of the nation’s best college receivers and I’m sure he will have continued success as he makes the transition to the NFL. We are all very excited for Kenny and his family.”

The nation’s second-leading receiver in yards per game in 2008, Britt finished his career as the BIG EAST’s all-time leader in receiving yards (3,043) in 34 games.

“We knew as our program grew, this day would come,” added Schiano. “Having Kenny drafted in the first round is an exciting honor for both him and our entire program.”

Britt ended the season with school records in single-season receptions (87) and receiving yards (1,371) to help guide Rutgers to its third consecutive bowl victory.
