UNION, N.J. — Brandon Jennings could be done with the NCAA before even spending one year on campus.
UNION, N.J. — Brandon Jennings could be done with the NCAA before even spending one year on campus.
Brandon Jennings and those close to him are weighing the options as to whether he will play overseas or at Arizona next season.
The question is: If Jennings goes overseas, will it set a trend for others to follow? Could we see a Lance Stephenson or a Renardo Sidney follow Jennings abroad for a year before entering the NBA?
“I think it potentially could be exactly that, especially if it works out well,” said Jeff Valle, a Los Angeles-based attorney representing Jennings who has worked with Eric Clapton, Kevin Costner and Home Box Office. “And it may also cause the (NBA and NCAA) to look more carefully into their own situation (with the age limit). If the top players find it more attractive to not go to play college ball because they get paid right away and play in very competitive international leagues, I could imagine the NCAA saying, ‘We have to make sure we’re not losing our top players.’” (more…)
In his cover story on Brandon Jennings in the current Basketball Times, John Akers confirms what we reported here earlier this month.
“Jennings has yet to attain a qualifying test score that correlates to his grade-point average,” Akers wrote.
The 6-foot Jennings is committed to Arizona.
“He doesn’t have his test score,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith told ZAGSBLOG earlier this month. “He has taken both the SAT and the ACT. He needs to get his test score up a little more to correlate with his GPA.
“I think he’ll make it. I’ve had guys in this boat before. I obviously have some concern. He won’t get his scores back until the end of June.”
Jennings earned numerous honors this past year at Oak Hill, including Naismith, Parade Magazine, EA Sports, MaxPreps and Basketball Times national player of the year awards.
NEW YORK – If the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden is anything like Friday’s scrimmage at LIU-Brooklyn, Brandon Jennings and company will run, dunk and alley oop their way to an easy victory on national television Saturday night.
