Nurideen Lindsey to Arkansas

Former St. John’s guard Nurideen Lindsey is on the move.

“I decided to further my basketball and college career at the University Of Arkansas,” Lindsey Tweeted Friday night.

The 6-foot-3 Lindsey must sit a year and will become eligible in December 2012.

Mike Anderson to Arkansas

Former Missouri coach Mike Anderson is officially the new head man at Arkansas.

The former Nolan Richardson assistant will reportedly receive $2.2 million per year over seven years. Arkansas won the 1994 national title with Richardson as head coach and Anderson as an assistant.

“We are extremely excited to welcome home Mike Anderson to the University of Arkansas as our new head men’s basketball coach,” Arkansas AD Jeff Long said. “Mike is one of the outstanding head coaches in college basketball. His teams play an exciting brand of basketball that has already proven successful at both UAB and Missouri. (more…)

Madden to Arkansas, Birch to Pitt, Harrison Sets Visits; Haith, Casey, Hill Highlight Coaches’ Clinic

A couple of big commitments went down on Wednesday…

Ky Madden, a 6-foot-5 point guard from Arkansas East Poinsett County, chose Arkansas over Ole Miss and Baylor.

Madden joins two Arkansas natives, 6-10 power forward Hunter Mickelson and 6-7 power forward Aaron Ross — his teammates on the Arkansas Wings — in a terrific recruiting class for head coach John Pelphrey. The class also includes 6-3 St. Louis point guard B.J. Young.

“I feel like I can’t go wrong, I’m an in-state guy,” Madden told 103.9 the Game. “Us together, I think we can turn Arkansas around. … I didn’t feel like I could leave the state.” (more…)

Madden to Announce Wednesday

Ky Madden is down to three schools and will announce at 10:30 Wednesday morning.

The 6-foot-5, 175-pound Madden out of Arkansas East Poinsett County is considering Baylor, Ole Miss and Arkansas, he said by text.

He cancelled planned visits to Oklahoma State and UConn.

“Really right now I’m liking Arkansas, Ole Miss and Baylor,” he said last week. “Those are the only schools I’ve been able to look at. I like Oklahoma State and UConn but I really haven’t seen them for myself.”

FREE THROWS

Despite yet another erroneous report from a national blog, a national recruiting service did not break Jermaine Sanders’ commitment to Cincinnati. SNY.tv did last night. Apparently this blogger has trouble reading a time stamp…Brewster postgraduate Max Hooper will take an official visit to Harvard the weekend of Oct 22nd, per the Brewster Twitter…Norvel Pelle, a 2011 forward out of California, had an in-home visit with the Oregon staff last night, per Alex Kline…Seattle Garfield guard Tony Wroten Tweeted that he is “Really liking louisville right now.”

Ky Madden Mulling 5 Schools

Having alreday taken officials to Baylor and Arkansas, Ky Madden has plans to hit Ole Miss (Sept. 24), Oklahoma State (Sept. 30) and UConn (Oct. 8 ) before making a decision.

He has already visited Ole Miss unofficially.

“Really right now I’m liking Arkansas, Ole Miss and Baylor,” the 6-foot-5, 175-pound Madden out of Arkansas East Poinsett County said by phone. “Those are the only schools I’ve been able to look at. I like Oklahoma State and UConn but I really haven’t seen them for myself.”

Adonis Thomas Cuts List to 6

Adonis Thomas, the No. 6 small forward in the nation, has cut his list, ZAGSBLOG has learned.

“My top six are Memphis, Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, UCLA and Kansas,” he said by phone from the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game in Venice Beach, Calif.

“I don’t have any favorite.”

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Thomas, a Memphis native, had previously considered North Carolina, Duke, Oklahoma, Missouri, UConn, Florida State and Ole Miss.

Ky Madden Planning Officials

One name that has flown under the radar somewhat this summer is Ky Madden, a 6-foot-5, 170-pound point guard out of Arkansas East Poinsett County.

The No. 4 point guard in the Class of 2011, Madden helped the Arkansas Wings win the 17 & under AAU National Championship at ESPN’S Wide World of Sports last month in Orlando. He was named tournament MVP.

Madden currently has officials lined up to UConn (Sept. 8-10), Baylor (Sept. 11), Ole Miss and Arkansas. His father, Jerome Madden, said Monday it was unclear which of the last two schools his son would visit first, but one will take place the weekend of Sept. 17 and one Sept. 24. (more…)

Kadeem Jack Has a Top Four

Kadeem Jack has a top four and says he hopes to decide in the next three weeks.

“It’s Arkansas, Miami, Rutgers and West Virginia,” the 6-foot-9, 219-pound Jack said Sunday by phone.

Jack has already visited all four schools but said he’s “setting up” some visits and hopes to decide by Sept. 1, before he heads off to South Kent (Conn.)

“I kind of want to get it over with,” he said.

JaKarr Sampson of St. Vincent-St. Mary visited Brewster (N.H.) Academy on Sunday and is considering spending his senior year there, according to Don Anderson, his AAU coach. Anderson said Sampson’s current college list includes St. John’s, Tennessee, Kansas, Baylor and Louisville and added that “Marquette may be joining the party because Michigan State is out.”…Chicago guard Phil Greene will take an unofficial to St. John’s Monday and Tuesday…Rutgers’ F Jonathan Mitchell had 28 points & 20 rebounds for the Eastern All-Stars in a 115-93 victory over the Grand Bahamas All-Stars on Saturday. Joe Mazzulla of West Virginia had 24 pts and Hofstra’s Cornelius Vines had 24 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the Eastern All-Stars…6-9 rising junior Neville Fincher is transferring to St. Benedict’s from St. Anthony per Alex Kline.

SEC/Big East Invite, Coaches vs. Cancer Set

The fourth annual SEC/BIG EAST Invitational will be held Dec. 8 and 11 in Louisville and Pittsburgh.

The two-night men’s college basketball event begins with a doubleheader Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Freedom Hall in Louisville, featuring Arkansas vs. Seton Hall at 7 p.m. on ESPN2, followed by Kentucky vs. Notre Dame at 9:30  on ESPN.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, at the brand new CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Rutgers will take on Auburn on ESPN2, followed by Pittsburgh vs. Tennessee on ESPN. Game times for the Pittsburgh site will be announced at a later date. (more…)

South Kent Loaded for Next Year

The South Kent (Conn.) School has only 135 students yet it will have a starting five next year that would make some college teams envious.

South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson could feature a starting five of Ricardo Ledo, Elijah Carter, Kadeem Jack, Maurice Harkless and Derrick Randall.

Harkless is committed to UConn.

Jack holds offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Miami, Rutgers and UConn.

And Carter initially committed to St. Bonaventure.
