After what he called an “amazing” 48-hour official visit to St. John’s, Remi Barry says he will make a college decision “maybe like next week.”

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Barry, a rising senior at Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro High, will choose from among St. John’s, UCLA and Arizona State.

“They are all equal,” Barry said Tuesday night. “I’m going to choose my school based on basketball, not the city, the life, the fans, all of that.

“The school that I’m gonna choose is gonna be based on basketball. Everything [else] is an extra.” (more…)

Remi Barry lives in California but he’s rooting for the Boston Celtics to win the NBA championship on Thursday night.

“I just want them to win because they have Rajon Rondo,” Barry said Wednesday night by phone.

By the time the 6-foot-7, 220-pound Barry boards a plane to New York on Saturday, he will know whether the Celtics or Lakers are world champs.

Barry also hopes to know after his visit whether he will pick St. John’s, UCLA or Arizona State as his college destination.

“I still have no idea,” Barry said. “I’m not going to Arizona State for sure, I’m not going to UCLA for sure. It depends on what’s going to happen this weekend and where I feel most comfortable.” (more…)

Arizona State scored twice on Saturday by landing two quality frontcourt players who took recent visits.

The Sun Devils got commitments from 6-foot-7 forward Kyle Cain of Hampton (N.H.) Prep and 6-6 wing Carrick Felix of the College of Southern Idaho.

Cain chose the Sun Devils over West Virginia, Alabama and Illinois after an official visit to the school June 2-4.

“Yeah,” said the New Hampton (N.H.) combo forward. “I like the coaching staff and the facilities they had and I always liked the campus.” (more…)

The future of the St. John’s basketball program could take a major turn later this month.

Remi Barry, a 6-foot-7 French national from Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro High, will visit Arizona State the weekend June 11-13 and St. John’s June 18-20.

Barry said he was looking forward to the St.  John’s visit to “see if I like the campus, the people, the city. See if I feel like home or not, if I’m comfortable or not.”

He will then make a decision between those two programs and UCLA sometime later this month.

Arizona State is also in the mix for Kyle Cain, a 6-7 wing from New Hampton (N.H.) Prep, who is also considering West Virginia, Illinois and Alabama. Cain is currently visiting ASU. (more…)
