“Yes, I decommitted,” the Gill St. Bernard’s 2013 point guard told SNY.tv by phone, confirming a tweet by Adam Finkestein.

“I visited the campus a couple times and I still have a good relationship with the coaches and everything. I want to have the opportunity to get a better look at some other schools and some other options just to compare it to.”

Sina said he just decommitted about “an hour ago” — around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday — and that his phone is already blowing up.

“A bunch of schools have called,” he said. “It’s a little crazy right now.”

Alabama remains in the mix for Sina, who played this summer at the LeBron James Skill Academy.

“Yeah, I’m still considering them,” he said.

AKRON, Ohio — Jaren Sina made a name for himself while playing at tiny Gill St. Bernard’s High School in Gladstone, N.J.

From that launching pad, the 6-foot-2 2013 point guard committed to Alabama last season and led his team deep into the New Jersey North Non-Public B playoffs before losing to perennial power St. Patrick.

Now Sina is on the biggest recruiting stage of the summer, competing at the LeBron James Skills Academy, where he’s joined by two St. Patrick players, big men Dakari Johnson and Austin Colbert.

In this interview, Sina talks about his experiences at the camp and his efforts to aid the victims of the tornado in Alabama. Read more about it in this story.

The No. 6 shooting guard in the Class of 2011, Lacey chose Alabama Wednesday over Kentucky, Kansas, Auburn and UConn.

“It was a very difficult decision because I had great choices,” the 6-foot-3 Lacey, out of Huntsville (Ala.) Butler, told ESPN.com. “My relationship and trust with [Alabama coach Anthony Grant] set the Crimson Tide apart. I also feel the university of Alabama will provide the best opportunity for me when basketball is over. I love the people in Alabama.”

A two-time Mr. Basketball in Alabama, Lacey won three state titles at Huntsville.

“Trevor is all about winning and possesses the ability to affect winning in a variety of ways,” Grant told ESPN.com “He possesses tremendous skill and talent, but what is most impressive is his character and IQ.”

He added: “Trevor has made an impact in the state of Alabama with his basketball and community work. He takes pride in the state. We are excited to have him and welcome him to the Alabama Crimson Tide family.”

Lacey joins shooting guard Levi Randolph, power forward Nick Jacobs, small forward Rodney Cooper and center Moussa Gueye in Alabama’s recruiting class.

Bolden said Hood will choose from among Florida State, Mississippi State, Louisville, Marquette and Alabama.

“At this point it’s pretty much him doing some soul-searching deciding what he wants to do,” Bolden said.

“Everybody’s right there. A little this or that will be the determining factor. I think everybody is jockeying for position.”

The 6-8, 215-pound Hood figures to be an impact player at the next level.

“I think he’ll be an outstanding player,” Bolden said. “He’s a very special kid with all the different attributes he brings to the game. He’s able to do so much on the court. Most importantly he’s able to make the guys around him so much better. He’ll definitely be an impact player coming in.”

FREE THROWS

Oak Hill guard Ben McLemore is down to Kansas and Missouri and visits Missouri this coming weekend, per Oak Hill coach Steve Smith…Ryan Boatright, who on Friday decommitted from West Virginia, will take his first visit to UConn, per Dave Telep of ESPN….2012 SG Chris Bolden of Norcross (GA) committed to Miami, according to reports.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Carson out of Mesa (Az.) High said he plans to take officials to Arizona, Washington, Oregon State and St. John’s.

He plans to leave one official open and said he would probably take it to Alabama or North Carolina.

He has already visited UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona and Arizona State unofficially.

Other schools in the mix are Oregon, Washington State and USC.

“I’m going to try and narrow it down to five [officials] and right before the signing period ends make my decision,” Carson, the No. 10 point guard in the nation, said by phone after scoring 22 points for USA Midwest at the Nike Global Challenge in Portland, Ore.

Carson is one of several West Coast players new St. John’s coach Steve Lavin is targeting, and Carson is interested in what the Johnnies have to offer.

“I talked to him a couple times,” Carson said. “I know he was at UCLA. I’m trying to build a nice relationship with him. They’re a historic university. I’m looking to get down there and see how things are going. I’m gonna try and get down there and take my time and talk to the players.”

Wherever he lands, Carson wants to bring an uptempo style to the point guard spot.

“I’m gonna try and bring an uptempo style,” he said. “I like to push the ball and play pressure defense. That’s the type of style I like to bring.”

No, this Tony Parker is a 6-foot-9, 265-pound rising junior center from Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove ranked among the top 10 centers in his class.

As a freshman, Parker helped lead his team to a 30-3 record and the Georgia Class 4A state championship. He started 32 games and averaged 7.5 points. and 10.3 rebounds.

Earlier this month he played alongside Michael Gilchrist, Marquis Teague and Tony Wroten on the USA U17 national team that won the gold medal in Hamburg, Germany.

“I got looks from Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Miami, Georgetown and West Virginia,” Parker said last week at the Peach Jam. “I’m pretty much open right now.”

“Probably there’s not a school in the country that won’t recruit Tony by ’12. He’ll have a lot of opportunities,” said Georgia Stars coach Norm Parker.

Norm Parker (no relation) points out that Tony just turned 16 and is still a “young man.”

“Tony’s upside is just tremendous,” Norm said. “He’s big, he’s strong. He’s got great hands and good footwork. He’s got to always continue to work on his body and get it in the bets shape possible and he’ll do that as he matures and gets older.”

Norm would like to see Tony get down to 240 or 250 pounds to play in college and suggests that he’s more of a natural four-man.

“Because of his size and he can play in the paint, he can always get his shot up because he can get separation,” Norm said. “His upside is unbelievable.”

After averaging 14.7 points and leading the Hawks to the championship game, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Behanan was named the Most Valuable Player of the NBA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va.

“I was shocked,” Behanan, the No. 6 power forward in the Class of 2011, said Sunday night in a phone interview. “I felt good this morning. A lot of people came through that camp and I was the most outstanding one so I was kind of happy.”

Behanan’s phone hasn’t been ringing off the hook the way you might expect, but he did pick up an offer from Indiana Sunday.

“Indiana just called and offered me right off the top,” said Behanan, who attends Bowling Green (Ky.) High. “I’ll probably go to Indiana Thursday. It’s like two hours [away]. I’m not sure yet.”

Behanan, who decommitted from Cincinnati last year, said the rest of his list includes West Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Purdue, Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Purdue and Georgia.

Though he lists Kentucky, John Calipari and his staff haven’t yet reached out.

“No, they haven’t,” he said. “I [haven't] heard from them in a long time so I don’t really know where they stand, so I’m just patiently waiting.”

Would he like to hear from them?

“Oh yeah, I would,” he said.

Repeating comments he made to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Behanan said he was hoping to face Kentucky-bound rising senior wing Michael Gilchrist of Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick.

The No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2011, Gilchrist wasn’t at the NBA Top 100 Camp. He is training with the USA U17 team in San Antonio, along with Andre Drummond, Tony Wroten, Brad Beal, Kyle Anderson and others.

“I know he had stuff to do,” Behanan said of Gilchrist. “I wasn’t disappointed. I would like to face him though.”

As for college, Behanan said he hopes to bring a Ron Artest-type energy wherever he lands.

“I’ll just be a sparkplug,” he said. “Another Ron Artest. Making plays and getting everybody else off.”

The 6-foot-7 forward from New Hampton (N.H.) prep has now taken four official visits and has one remaining.

“He’s going to decide if he’s going to visit either Arizona State or Alabama with his last visit,” New Hampton coach Peter Hutchins said.

Cain visited Rhode Island and Northern Illinois before committing to Rhode Island. After decommitting he has been to Illinois and West Virginia.

He spoke very highly of Arizona State last week in an interview.

“I don’t have a favorite school right now, but the one that stands out the most is probably Arizona State because they need immediate help with the forward spot and the three spot,” Cain said.

“They don’t have that many forwards so it’s like if I go to Arizona State, there may be a chance of me starting there as a freshman.”

Hutchins said it was possible Cain could visit one school officially and one unofficially, but any visit wouldn’t happen until after the dead period ends May 28. New Hampton’s graduation is also May 28.

“If he takes another visit it won’t be until after he graduates May 28,” Hutchins said.

As for West Virginia, Hutchins said he hadn’t talked to Cain in detail but that the visit went well.

“I haven’t talked to him in great detail but he had a great visit,” Hutchins said.

Cain also spoke highly of Mounties coach Bob Huggins before the visit.

Wherever Cain lands, Hutchins said they will be getting a special player.

“Kyle’s improved so much over the course of this year,” Hutchins said. “He’s a very talented player. Very athletic. His biggest strength is related to his intangibles. He’s such a hard worker and he’s ultra-competitive.

“He could end up being a great high-major basketball player, which is something very few people anticipated heading into a year of prep school.”

**In other Big East-related news, Brooklyn’s Greedy Peterson was booted from Providence for violation of team rules. Sources say he is headed to play pro ball overseas.

**St. John’s transfer Omari Lawrence tells ZAGSBLOG contributor Alex Kline he’s considering Clemson, Xavier, George Washington,Virginia Tech.

“No visits have been set,” he said. “I have no favorites.”

One of the hottest names in recruiting right now is Kyle Cain.

The 6-foot-7 Cain is a multi-faceted forward who pulled out of his commitment to Rhode Island and is now considering West Virginia, Arizona State, Alabama and Illinois.

He’s headed on a visit to West Virginia this weekend.

“Yeah, I’m going to West Virginia this Sunday and Monday,” Cain said Friday by phone.

Cain likes West Virginia because head coach Bob Huggins has churned out a slew of NBA-caliber forwards, including Devin Ebanks and Da’Sean Butler from last year’s Final Four team.

While Ebanks and Butler are gone, the Mountaineers do bring back John Flowers and Mount Vernon, N.Y. native Kevin Jones. They also recently added 6-7 small forward Darrious Curry.

“Coach Huggins, he’s made a living off of guys like me, long athletic forwards that can play multiple [positions],” said Cain, who starred at T.F. North High School in Calumet City, Ill., before honing his game for a prep year at New Hampton (N.H.).

“One time, Coach Huggins had played all forwards and Da’Sean Butler was running the one, a 6-7 guy. So that’s pretty special to me. On top of that, Coach Huggins is a legendary coach.”

Cain said he no favorite right now, but seems high on Arizona State.

“I don’t have a favorite school right now, but the one that stands out the most is probably Arizona State because they need immediate help with the forward spot and the three spot,” he said.

“They don’t have that many forwards so it’s like if I go to Arizona State, there may be a chance of me starting there as a freshman.”

He has not visited the campus, but said “That’s something I’m looking forward to setting up.”

Cain said he will plan out his other visits once he returns from West Virginia.

One school Cain won’t be visiting is Kentucky.

Cain said head coach John Calipari was supposed to call him on Mother’s Day but “it never happened,” and then he subsequently heard from assistant Orlando Antigua.

“I was excited that Kentucky called me and I was like, ‘Yeah, wow, Kentucky,’” Cain said. “But Kentucky is a school that goes after All-Americans every year. They missed out on some guys so they’re coming for the best next thing. And I’m not an All-American, but they know that I can battle with All-Americans. So they called and wanted to try to get me on a visit.

“When Coach Huggins and them called me, I was like, OK I’m interested in them a lot. When Kentucky called me, I was excited, but at the same time, I’m like, Do I want to go to Kentucky and take a risk? It could be a good risk or a bad risk for me.

“I could go to Kentucky and I could play well for my first year and maybe have a chance of going to the NBA or I can go to Kentucky and have a bad year and be under the bus with the fans and the coaches, so it’s a risk that I have to take.”

Cain didn’t want to get into why he decommitted from Rhode Island, saying only, “There were some things that were supposed to happen that wasn’t going to happen so I was kind of unhappy and I asked for my letter of release. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach [Jim] Baron.”

Wherever Cain lands, he figures to be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

“I’m known for having a high motor, known for being able to run the floor, block shots, rebound the ball, finish strong around the rim. But why I’m getting all this high-major attention right now is because I went to prep school and polished up my game a little bit more.

“I’m at the level where I’m becoming a matchup problem for players. I’m able to take players off the dribble now. I’m able to shoot wide-open mid-range jump shots. I’m working on my ball-handling, so I’m becoming a matchup problem for a lot of players. I’m a 6-7 guy, real athletic. It’s kind of hard to stick me because if you bring a bigger guy out on me, I’ll go past him and if you bring a smaller guy on me, I’ll take him in the post and post him up.”

“Yo, work hard to get open. You’re not working to get open,” Isler told him.

Before Taylor could utter a single word of protest, Isler added: “We need you to get open.”

A 6-foot-6 junior guard, Taylor took Isler’s words to heart. He scored 11 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, including a critical game-tying 3-pointer and two go-ahead foul shots, to lift Boys & Girls to a 55-50 victory over Cardozo before 3,658.
