James Wiseman, the 7-foot center from East (TN) High School, has recently visited Kentucky, Kansas and Memphis and still has official visits planned to Vanderbilt (Oct. 14), Memphis (Oct. 19), and Florida State (Oct. 25).

The No. 1 player in the Class of 2019 is currently at the USA Basketball mini-camp in Colorado Springs, Col., where he discussed his recent visits and his decision timeline with Eric Bossi of Rivals.com.

Kentucky: “The visit went great. Coach (John) Calipari is a great guy and the coaching staff is great. The team is great too. Keldon Johnson, Ashton Hagans, and all of those guys, I had fun with them.”

He added: “Coach Calipari compared my EYBL highlights to his system and when Anthony Davis was there at Kentucky and Karl-Anthony Towns and it was very similar. It was pick and roll, pick and pop and I was like wow, that just amazed me. So I got a feeling that I could fit in their system very well and do great things.”

Kansas:  “I liked the atmosphere and the environment. I was getting feedback from the players about Bill Self and how he really is behind the scenes. Really I mostly talked to the coaching staff about my future and stuff like that.”

Memphis (which he visited unofficially for Midnight Madness): “It was crazy, I was getting swarmed by a lot of people. A lot of people taking pictures and stuff and I could barely even get into the arena. It was crazy, I had a good time.”

After initially saying he planned to commit next spring, Wiseman now says he plans to commit this fall. The early signing period runs Nov. 14-21.

“Yeah, for sure,” he told Evan Daniels. “We got to see how it goes. I’m just taking my time and having fun with the process but once my decision comes out I will be 100-percent committed.
