Tyrese Maxey, the 6-foot-3 point guard from South Garland (TX), seems to be leaning towards Kentucky and possibly reclassifying to the 2018 class, according to SEC Country.

Maxey and 2019 Kentucky commit Ashton Hagans have been talking and have come up with a nickname for themselves.

“We call ourselves The Duo,” Maxey said. “A possible duo. I’m sorry. Trying not to laugh.”

Hagans committed to Kentucky earlier this month and is reportedly considering reclassification, but still has some academic work to do. On the other hand, Maxey said he’s good academically, he just has to talk it over with his family.

“I think I’ll be able to figure that out in a week or so. Probably next week, I’ll be able to come to a conclusion what I’m going to do,” he said. “Academically I’m fine. I take my classes, I’m a pretty good student, so I’m actually in a pretty good place for that. But I just want to see what’s best for my family and best for my future. I’m ready to get that decision made.”

If Maxey and Hagans both can play next season, the Wildcats will have four former five-star point guards with these two and Immanuel Quickley and sophomore Quade Green, who announced he was coming back to Lexington after reports said he was considering transferring to LaSalle.

In addition to Kentucky, Maxey is also considering Texas, Michigan, Michigan State and Oklahoma State.

Even if Maxey doesn’t reclassify, head coach John Calipari doesn’t care and just wants him in his program.

“He just tells me it doesn’t matter what class I come in,” Maxey said. “He’ll take me in either one. He just said it’s up to me.”

James Wiseman, the No.1 player in the 2019 class, is also considering Kentucky and said he’d like to play alongside Maxey and Hagans.

According to 247Sports, Maxey is the No. 13 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 2 point guard, behind Hagans.
