Charles Coleman, the 7-foot center from Dexter (MA) School, is already receiving high-major interest from schools including UConn, UNLV, UMass, and Notre Dame, among others. George Wright-Easy, the head coach at Dexter School, spoke with ZAGSBLOG on Tuesday about Coleman’s recruitment.

“There are schools I know have solid interest and offers. He has offers from UConn, UNLV, Oklahoma, Boston College, and schools like that,”  said Wright-Easy. “Notre Dame has recruited him hard and he has offers from UMass and South Florida. Those guys have been on him pretty hard. Wake Forest hasn’t offered yet but they’re on him hard. Rutgers is on him hard. He’s hearing from a lot of people, but it doesn’t really matter yet.”

According to 247Sports, Coleman is ranked as the No. 216 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 4 player from the state of Massachusetts. Living in the Northeast, Coleman has already taken multiple visits to UConn and will visit UNLV soon.

“He has a visit planned to UNLV sometime in January,” said Wright-Easy. “He’s been to UConn so many times. We don’t really even need to do an official there. He’s been there and met everybody a million times. They want him to commit, but at the end of the day you gotta keep your options open and see how things play out.”

The New England Report currently has Coleman ranked as the No. 3 overall player from the state of Massachusetts and the No. 5 player from the New England area, while Nothing But Net Magazine has Coleman ranked as the No. 94 overall player in the 2019 class.

Early on in the season, Dexter Southfield has started the season with a 3-2 record and Coleman continues to develop his game, as Wright-Easy said, “He’s a special kid with his size, physique, and he’s just learning how to grow into his body. His skill set is very high, but once he fully grows into his body, I think that a lot of people’s jaws will drop.”

“As a coach, I’ve put a lot of restrictions on him, in terms of his development. I haven’t allowed him to dunk in games because I’m trying to make sure that he’s fully developed around the basket,” said Wright-Easy. “Now I’m kind of releasing some of that stuff. We’re taking one thing at a time. Obviously, with big guys, you have to make sure to stay the course. So, now I think once we release everything and say these are the things I want you to do in the game, do what you feel like doing, then I think a lot of people’s minds are going to be blown.”

According to Wright-Easy, Coleman, who is younger for his class, could explore options to reclassify to the Class of 2020, but for now, that doesn’t seem like the plan.

“He’s a baby and another thing that people don’t realize is that he’s a true 2019 kid,” said Wright-Easy. “In this day and age, guys are reclassifying all the time. He’s never reclassified which is kind of strange for basketball these days. He’s the kind of kid that could actually reclassify to 2020, but we’re probably not going to do that because there’s no need for that. We’re trying to get them out of high school as fast as we can, not hold them for ten years.”
