  • Zion Williamson among group of top 2018 prospects to sign in spring

The Zion Williamson Sweepstakes will extend into the spring.

Williamson, the 6-foot-5 forward from Spartanburg (S.C.) Day, will sign his National Letter of Intent in the spring, his stepfather told ZAGSBLOG Thursday morning.

    “Yes,” Lee Anderson said.

The early signing period ended Wednesday, and the late signing period runs April 11-May 16.

Ranked the No. 2 prospect on the 2018 ESPN 100, Williamson is considering Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Clemson and South Carolina.

“I know Signing Day is next month, and, hey, if I’m ready I’ll definitely sign,” Williamson wrote in his USA Today blog last month. “But I don’t want to feel rushed by a date so I’m just seeing how everything goes.

“My heart has to tell me which school I am supposed to be at.

“It’s always funny when I read different things from sports writers that think they have me all figured out and know who I’m gonna choose. I don’t even know that yet! Haha!”

Of the top five committed prospects for 2018, Duke has three of them in No. 1 R.J. Barrett, No. 3 Cam Reddish and No. 10 Tre Jones.

Several other top prospects appear headed toward spring signings as well.

Bol Bol, Romeo Langford and Simi Shittu, ranked, 4, 5 and 6, respectively by ESPN, have not signed yet, either.

The 7-2 Bol, who recently transferred to Findlay Prep (NV) from Mater Dei (CA), is down to Oregon and Kentucky.

The 6-5 Langford cut his list to Kansas, Indiana and Vanderbilt.

The 6-9 Shittu has only visited Vanderbilt, meaning Coach Bryce Drew remains in the mix for two of the top four uncommitted players in 2018.

Anfernee Simons, the 6-4 shooting guard from IMG Academy (FL) ranked No. 8 by ESPN, also plans to sign in the spring.

Moses Brown, the 7-2 center from Archbishop Molloy (N.Y.) ranked No. 17, remains uncommitted and has visited UCLA, Florida State and Maryland, with interest from Kentucky.

“We’re not done yet, we still have to see where all this stuff goes,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said when introducing his three-man class of Tyler Herro, Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley.

Emmitt Williams, the 6-6 forward from Oak Ridge (FL) ranked No. 20, remains uncommitted following an arrest for sexual assault.

Jahvon Quinerly, the 6-1 point guard from Hudson (N.J.) Catholic ranked No. 23, also has not chosen a school after decommitting from Arizona in the wake of the FBI investigation. Villanova, Virginia, Stanford and Seton Hall were also involved the first time around.
