Ithiel Horton, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound combo guard from Roselle Catholic (NJ) High School, committed to Delaware on Monday, following his second official visit to last weekend (Sept. 15).

“It was just like a home away from home,” said Horton. “[The] facilities are great, the basketball program is on its way up, especially with coach [Martin] Ingelsby as a coach. They believe in me to come in and help and that’s all I can ask for.”

Horton, who transferred to Roselle Catholic with the closing of St. Anthony’s last spring, chose Delaware over schools such as Penn and Lafayette, among others. Horton took his first official visit to Lafayette earlier this month (Sept. 1) and had planned to take his third official visit to Penn later this month (Sept. 22), but with his commitment, that visit is canceled.

“Ithiel is very excited about the opportunities at the University of Delaware,” RC coach Dave Boff said. “He has a great relationship with Coach Ingelsby and believes it’s the best place to reach his full potential.”

Horton averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists last season under Naismith Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony’s. Hurley announced on April 5 that the school would close after this season, but he told ZAGSBLOG on May 17 that he will now launch the “Hurley Family Foundation” in Jersey City beginning this fall.
