Jimmy Nichols, the 6-foot-8 small forward from Conway (SC) High School, announced his commitment to Providence via his Twitter on Tuesday.

“It was the best choice for me because of the opportunity,” said Nichols in a TV broadcast with ABC 15. “They have three seniors leaving, and most of them play my position, so that was the best move for me.”

Nichols is the third recruit in the 2018 class for Providence along with AJ Reeves and Kris Monroe.

“I’m very excited because it’s the Big East,” said Nichols. “You can’t go wrong with the Big East. I had Georgetown in there as well, but the Big East was a big part of my decision.”

Nichols took a recent visit to Providence on Sept. 1 and committed to the Friars shortly after the tour. Along with Providence, Nichols’ final three schools included Miami (FL) and South Carolina.

“Besides the college being small, which I thought was better for me,” said Nichols about Providence. “It was also about the college that they are. They’re a prestigious college.”

According to 247Sports, Nichols is the No. 186 ranked recruit in the class of 2018 and the No. 4 player from the state of South Carolina.
