Rutgers continued its recent recruiting roll on Friday by landing Don Bosco Prep guard Ron Harper Jr, the son of the former NBA standout Ron Harper who won five NBA championships.

Harper Jr. visited Rutgers on Thursday.

“I loved it,” Harper told Rutgers247 on Thursday. “I thought Rutgers was a great place. And it’s in New Jersey so my family and friends will get to see me play. And I loved the environment. The people are so friendly. When I met the coaches, it felt like I knew them for more than a day. It felt like I knew them for years.”

He is Rutgers’ fourth  commit in the Class of 2018, following guards Montez Mathis and Mac McClung and big man Mamadou Doucoure. Rutgers is now ranked 10th nationally in the Class of 2018 per 248.

Per The Star-Ledger, Harper averaged 10.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and shot 37.7 percent (23-for-61) from beyond the arc in 23 games last winter for a Don Bosco Prep team that won its first NJSIAA Non-Public A state title in 47 years last winter.

“I think (Rutgers) is in very good hands,” Harper told 247. “I think the new staff is going to do a very good job. They showed me the improvements from the year before they got hired to the year they got hired, and it’s a big jump. The program is moving in the direction and has the right people running it.”
