  • Duke Officially Announces Additions of Duval, Tucker, Goldwire

    Duke officially announced the additions of Trevon Duval, Jordan Goldwire and Jordan Tucker for the 2017-18 class.

    Duval committed to Duke on Monday, Tucker on Saturday and Goldwire on May 2.

    The three spring signees join Wendell Carter, Jr., Alex O’Connell and Gary Trent, Jr., to form a six-man class currently ranked fourth nationally by ESPN. In Carter, Duval and Trent, Duke has signed ESPN’s top-rated power forward, point guard and shooting guard in the 2017 class, respectively.

    Trevon Duval (6-3 // 180 // New Castle, Del. // IMG Academy [Fla.])

    • A five-star recruit ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 1 point guard in the class of 2017 by ESPN
    • Rated as the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 1 guard in the class by Rivals.com
    • Ranked No. 7 overall and No. 2 among point guards in the class by Scout.com
    • Scored six points and handed out three assists to help the U.S. to a 98-87 win at the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit
    • Participated in USA Men’s Junior National Team minicamps in 2014, 2015 and 2016
    • Recorded eight points and three assists at the 2017 McDonald’s All-American Game
    • Averaged 16.2 points and 7.7 assists for IMG Academy in 2017, earning first-team All-America honors from USA Today and the Naismith Trophy
    • Paced WE-R1 to the 2016 Under Armour Association title with averages of 16.1 points and 3.8 assists
    • Earned USA Today Texas second team honors in 2016 after averaging 16.8 points at Advanced Prep International
    • Led St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.) to a National Christian Schools Athletic Association championship in 2015, collecting USA Today New Jersey second team honors
    • Helped Playaz Basketball Club (N.J.) win the 2014 Nike Peach Jam

    “Trevon is a prototypical point guard: a heady, aggressive leader with a great feel for the game and the ability to make others better,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “His natural leadership ability and relentless competitiveness set him apart from others at his position. Trevon will be a great fit at Duke and I’m thrilled that he’s chosen to be part of our program.”

    Jordan Goldwire (6-2 // 175 // Norcross, Ga. // Norcross)

    • Rated a three-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Scout.com
    • Named second-team All-Class 7A in 2017 after averaging better than 12 points and seven assists per game to lead Norcross the Georgia 7A state title game
    • Helped lead Norcross to a 26-6 record and both the Region 7-7A regular season and tournament championships as a senior
    • Earned All-Class 7A South honors from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association following his senior season; also selected to the GACA North Senior Boys All-Star Team
    • Selected for the Gwinnett County All-Star Game following his senior season
    • Averaged 9.4 points and a team-high 3.3 assists for Team United in the EYBL in 2016

    “Jordan has been a point guard his entire life and he played for one of the great high school programs at Norcross,” Krzyzewski said. “He can handle the ball, he keeps his composure and he’s a good student. Jordan has an opportunity to help our program a lot.”

    Jordan Tucker (6-7 // 207 // Marietta, Ga. // Wheeler)

    • Ranked No. 40 overall and No. 8 among small forwards in the class of 2017 by ESPN
    • Ranked 68th overall in the class by Rivals.com
    • Rated as the No. 4 small forward in the South by Scout.com
    • Selected for the 2017 Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game
    • Chosen to compete in the American Family Insurance 3-Point Championship at the 2017 Final Four in Phoenix
    • Helped lead Wheeler to a 22-6 record and a No. 8 ranking in the state of Georgia as a senior in 2017
    • Transferred to Wheeler from Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, N.Y.) prior to his senior year of high school
    • Averaged 17.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game as a junior in 2016 for Archbishop Stepinac, earning Class AA all-state honors from the NYSSWA
    • Participated in the 2015 NBPA Top 100 Camp
    • Recorded 15.6 points per game for Stepinac as a sophomore in 2015 to garner NYSSWA all-state recognition

    “Jordan is one of the best shooters in the class, but he’s also a complete player who can get to the rim, rebound and defend,” Krzyzewski said. “He has made a name for himself through hard work, and he’ll bring that strong work ethic to Duke. Jordan has a bright future and we’re excited that he has chosen to be a member of our program.”
