NEW YORK — North Carolina coach Roy Williams took a big swipe at President Donald Trump after his team’s win over Miami in the ACC Tournament at Barclays Center.

“Now everybody has got social media, and we don’t need ‘The New York Times’ to find out what in the dickens is going on in the country,” Williams, who has won two NCAA championships, said before adding a jab at Trump. “You know, our president tweets out more bullshit than anybody I’ve ever seen. We’ve got social media.”

I asked Williams the question that prompted the Trump response but nobody saw that answer coming.

Here was my question: “[Are there] any advantages media-wise or recruiting-wise to have [the ACC Tournament] in the big city?”

Williams’ point was that because of social media, the ACC Tournament can be held in Greensboro, N.C., or anywhere for that matter, and still command huge national exposure. It doesn’t have to be in a major market like New York, as Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim suggested Wednesday.

“In the old days, there’s no question it was the media capital of the world, but I’m not sure it is right now,” Williams said, before pointing one-by-one to several reporters. “Media capital of the world is sitting right there, right there, right there.”

North Carolina will face the Duke in Friday’s ACC semifinals. For more on that, read my column on FanRagSports.com.
