SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Pittsburgh and Virginia are working the hardest for 6-foot-10, 245-pound Lithuanian junior big man Lukas Kisunas of Brewster (N.H.) Academy.

Both schools saw him last fall during an open gym at Brewster.

“I have an offer from Virginia and Pittsburgh mainly,” Kisunas said at the recent Hoophall Classic. “There’s a couple of other schools but I’m kind of focused for now on these.”

Brewster coach Jason Smith listed Boston College, Providence and Creighton among the other schools involved.

Kisunas said he’s “new to the recruiting process” and is trying to adapt to it “slowly.”

He said Pittsburgh coach Kevin Stallings has had a couple of Lithuanians, and assistant Kevin Sutton was at the Hoophall.

“It seems like a great program for me, but I’m still looking out there,” he said.

As for Virginia, “They also have really big facilities and it seems like a great program. I really enjoyed [Coach Tony Bennett’s philosophy when I talked to him.”

Kisunas may take a couple visits this summer before going to play with the Lithuanian U18 National Team at the European Championships.

“He’s been extremely well-coached, a lot of National Team experience,” Smith said. “He played in the World Championships last year, European U18s this year. Really physical, just a throwback, like an old-school Big East center. Just bangs, physical, likes to hit people. He’s a better athlete than people realize. He’s got great hands, but they’re also really strong hands.”
