Jahmal McMurray, one of the hottest commodities on the transfer market, was on hand Thursday at Carnesecca Arena for St. John’s exciting 76-73 win over Butler.

“The game was great,” the 6-foot sophomore transfer from South Florida told ZAGSBLOG. “The atmosphere was amazing and the style of play fits me well.”

The Red Storm have a potential scholarship available for McMurray with Yankuba Sima transferring earlier this month.

“I like St. John’s a lot and I would be used like I was at South Florida, being able to score and get better at pretty much all aspects of my game,” he said.

Murray next visits Virginia Tech on Friday and Arizona State next week. He’s also considering Baylor and Western Kentucky.

McMurray averaged 20.3 points per game, including a 10-of-20 showing from behind the arc, in three games this season for USF before announcing his decision to transfer last Tuesday.

He had been suspended for the first six games due to an undisclosed issue.

A preseason Second Team All-AAC member, McMurray averaged 15.2 points per game on 39 percent shooting last year.

St. John’s also had Posh Alexander, a 5-10 freshman point guard from Our Saviour Lutheran, and 6-6 wing Jared Rhoden of Our Savior Lutheran at the game.
