St. John’s has named Anton Goff its new athletic director and will introduce him during a press conference on Monday at 4 p.m. in the President’s Room Lounge inside Carnesecca Arena.

The news was first reported by ZAGSBLOG earlier Sunday on Twitter and on the website.

Goff is currently the athletic director at the University of Hartford and will make a low-mid-six-figure salary at St. John’s.

“We are very pleased to welcome Anton Goff to St. John’s University,” said Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., President, St. John’s University. “The University community looks forward to collaborating with Anton in his role leading the Department of Athletics, as we collectively work to ensure the success of our student-athletes academically and competitively.”

Goff comes to St. John’s after two and a half years as the AD at Hartford, where he helped the Hawks make significant improvements in the areas of fundraising and student-athlete academic success. This past December, Goff announced the formation of the Hawk Nation Club, a new organization that now spearheads all fundraising efforts for the athletic program.

“I am honored to join the St. John’s family and extremely humbled that President Gempesaw has entrusted me to lead the Department of Athletics,” said Goff. “It is with great excitement that I look forward to providing the resources and support services for our student-athletes to excel at the highest levels as we strive to achieve excellence.  I am confident St. John’s will once again ascend to the top of the BIG EAST Conference and become a competitive force nationally.”

Chris Mullin will still report to General Counsel Joe Oliva, who stepped down as interim AD in July but continued to oversee the athletic department. Kathleen Meehan had most recently been the interim AD.

Acccording to his bio, Goff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in the administration of justice from Virginia Commonwealth in 1991 and went on to receive a master’s degree in the same discipline from VCU in 1994.

Goff and his wife Wendy, a former volleyball standout at Gonzaga (1992-95), have two daughters: Alexa and Gianna.
