Duke hosted a trio of bigtime Class of 2017 targets on Saturday night for “Countdown to Craziness” in point guard Matt Coleman, shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. and big man Wendell Carter Jr. All three went and sat with the Cameron Crazies at one point.

The 6-foot-5 Trent Jr., out of Prolific Prep (CA), and the 6-10 Carter Jr., out of Pace Academy (GA), have long talked about a possible package deal.

“A package deal is still the plan,” Carter Jr. told ZAGSBLOG this summer at the Adidas Nations event here, reiterating comments Trent Jr. made earlier this month at Peach Jam.

Of Duke, Carter Jr. said then: “It speaks for itself. It’s a great school, great academic school. Coach K is a wonderful coach.”

Carter Jr. is now down to Duke, Harvard, Georgia and Georgia Tech, while Trent Jr. recently trimmed his list to Duke, Michigan State and UCLA.

As 6-2 Coleman, meantime, is considering Duke along with Texas, Kansas and Stanford. He next visits Texas Oct. 28 along with Mohamed Bamba and Jarred Vanderbilt.

“I wouldn’t say [they want me to] commit but tell them how I feel,” he told me last week of Duke after Coach K visited him at Oak Hill Academy (VA). “But right now I’m just gonna let it play out and just wait a little bit longer. No idea when I’m going to commit because I just want to let it come to me, no rush.”
