Alabama enjoyed a huge recruiting day on Thursday.

Herb Jones, a 6-foot-7 shooting guard from Hale County (AL), committed to the Crimson Tide over Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Alex Reese, a 6-9 power forward from Pelham (AL), announced for Alabama over UAB later Thursday.

“Herb has a fantastic combination of size, skill, production, and potential that makes him an intriguing prospect,” Garrett Tucker, a talent evaluator and writer for HoopSeen, told AL.com. “His versatility allows him to play multiple positions, too. The way the NBA is evolving to a 3-and-D type of game, he’s perfect for that. He can score from all 3 levels and he can guard anywhere on the perimeter.

“Herb is also extremely unselfish. He makes everyone around him better, but he really took over games during the July evaluation periods. He proved he was more than just a high potential guy and someone who can produce right now. He opened a lot of eyes during July.”

Reese announced about three hours later, as we reported he would.

Reese averaged 25.4 points and 10.9 rebounds last season for Pelham, earning first-team All-State honors. He was also named an AL.com first-team All-Birmingham selection.

“He can handle the ball, he can shoot it, and he put it on the floor,” UAB’s Jared Williams told AL.com. “He can create his own shot, he can play defense, block shots, rebound. You know, I’m trying to get him down there (to UAB).”

“I watch him play all the time. I’ll go see him play anytime, anywhere.”

Alabama remains in the mix for several Class of 2017 players, including highly-regarded guards Collin Sexton and John Petty, who took a visit to Alabama in August.
