    NEW YORK — John Isner is not a fan of Colin Kaepernick.

    The 6-foot-10 American tennis star was asked his thoughts on the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback sitting during the National Anthem, and his response was quick and harsh.

    “Yeah, I thought that was pathetic from him,” Isner, who played college tennis at the University of Georgia and is ranked No. 21 in the world, said after his five-set victory over fellow American Frances Tiafoe at the US Open. “The cause he was going for, fine by me, but don’t do it in that fashion. He could have found some other ways to present his voice there. A lot of NBA players have done it, and good on ’em.

    Recruiting, UConn

    Paul Scruggs, the 6-foot-4 point guard from Indianapolis (IN) Southport, visited UConn officially over the weekend and is considering the Huskies along with Michigan State, Indiana and Xavier.

    “The visit went very well,” Mike Peterson, Scrugg’s AAU coach, told SNY.tv. “It was our first time out to UConn, it was a very impressive trip. [Coach Kevin] Ollie does a great job, I don’t see UConn spiraling downward at all in terms of getting top players and top talent. He does a great job, that’s a really good dude. He leaves a lasting impression on recruits, that’s for sure.”

    UConn also hosted 6-9 DeMatha Catholic (Md.) center Josh Carlton, and he and Scruggs spent time together.

    In the latest high-profile high school transfer, Gary Trent Jr. announced he will transfer to Napa (CA) Prolific Prep from Findlay Prep (NV).

    Prolific Prep also features Class of 2017 power forward Ira Lee and most recently produced current Kansas freshman Josh Jackson, a projected top-5 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

    Articles, Syracuse

    Andrew White, a graduate transfer from Nebraska, will play for Syracuse next season as a fifth-year player. Josh Mathews of Virginia-based RVAgamebreak.com first reported the news, according to Syracuse.com

    White, a 6-for-6 guard from Richmond, Va., had considered Michigan State, Miami and Virginia Commonwealth.

    White made 41 percent of his 3-point shots last season, making 87 of 211 attempts. He averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 assists a game and should help replace Malachi Richardson, who was a one-and-done out of Syracuse after leading the Orange to the Final Four.
