Syracuse has landed a pledge from John Gillon, a 6-foot, 175-pound point guard who is transferring from Colorado State and will be eligible immediately. He plans to sign after he graduates.

Gillon, who told SNY.tv he also considered Oklahoma and Texas A&M, averaged 13.2 points and 3.8 assists last season at Colorado State. He will provide depth in the backcourt for a Syracuse team that made the Final Four last season.

They but lose guards Trevor Cooney and Michael Gbinije but return guard Frank Jackson and bring in combo guard Tyus Battle and wing Matthew Moyer, among others. Freshman guard Malachi Richardson was selected for the NBA Draft Combine and may or may not return to campus.

“I’m a point but I go to the two at times because of my scoring ability,” Gillon told SNY.tv. “I can score at all three levels and also get everyone else involved.”

Gillon visited on a busy weekend for Syracuse, which also had Moyer, Class of 2016 forward Taurean Thompson and Class of 2017 targets Hamidou Diallo, Quade Green and Jordan Tucker on campus.
