    ToroArnaldo Toro, a 6-foot-9 2016 power forward from St. Benedict’s Prep, verbally committed to George Washington Thursday on his visit.

    The native of Puerto Rico also considered St. Joe’s and Kansas State. He was making his second visit to GW in recent weeks.

    “I feel it was the right place to be,” he said. “Great city, great environment, and their playing style is perfect for my game and [I’ll get a] good education as well.”

    In 20 games this spring and summer with the Albany City Rocks on the Nike EYBL circuit, he averaged 6.6 points and 5.7 rebounds.

    “GW is a great spot for Arnaldo both academically and socially,” St. Benedict’s coach Mark Taylor told SNY.tv. “I believe he can immediately contribute and play significant minutes. We are all ecstatic for him and his family.”

    Toro joins fellow power forwards Kevin Marfo and Colin Smith and point guards Darnell Rogers and Jair Bolden in GW’s 2016 class.

    Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are now recruiting former Syracuse commit Moustapha Diagne, his high school coach confirmed to SNY.tv.

    Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon has been in to Northwest Florida State twice to see the 6-foot-9 Diagne, while Cincinnati and Syracuse have seen him one, Pope John XXIII head coach Jason Hasson said.

    “Jamie Dixon is recruiting Tapha himself,” Hasson said.

    Jeremy Schneider of NJ Advanced Media was first to report the development.

    Diagne and his former Pope John teammate Jeromy Rodriguez are both at Northwest Florida State after failing to qualify for Division 1 schools.

    UnknownFollowing the news that Harry Giles tore his right ACL earlier this week, his close friend Jayson Tatum has replaced Giles as the projected No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, according to DraftExpress.com.

    The 6-foot-10 Giles is now projected at No. 2.

    Giles will announce his college choice on Friday at noon on ESPN. If he selects Duke, he and Tatum will be teammates next season, giving coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils the projects top two picks in 2017.

    “Obviously, it’s not ideal for him to miss another full year of development at such a crucial age,” Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com told SNY.tv of Giles. “But ACL tears today aren’t what they were 20 or even 10 years ago.

    Thon MakerThon Maker will choose a college in the spring and is planning official visits to two schools at this point, Ed Smith, Maker’s guardian, told SNY.tv on Thursday.

    The 7-foot Maker will take officials to Arizona State and Notre Dame, Smith said.

    Indiana and St. John’s are among the other schools involved, but officials to those schools aren’t definite.

    Maker is slated to take the SAT on Saturday and can’t take officials until then.

    “As the season goes on, that’s what we look forward to do,” Maker recently told SNY.tv. “Last year I got a chance to take a few visits on the road so I really want to do something like that again. I know I’ll definitely take a few, if not all my officials on the road also, but I don’t know any particular dates.”

    gilesHarry Giles suffered a “slight small tear” in his right ACL  during Oak Hill’s first game of the season on Tuesday night in Galax, Va.,, a source told SNY.tv.

    The 6-foot-10 Giles went down early in the game and did not return. Kentucky coach John Calipari was on hand watching Giles for the game.

    Giles, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2016 and the projected No. 1 pick in 2017, had already torn his left ACL during high school and made a full recovery. ACL recovery typically takes 6-9 months.

    Giles, who transferred to Oak Hill from Wesleyan (N.C.) Christian for his senior season, will  announce his college choice live on SportsCenter on Friday at noon. He is considering Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and Wake Forest, with Duke the heavy favorite.  Previous reports had him announcing Nov. 12 or 14. The NCAA early signing period runs Nov. 11-18.
