UNION, N.J. — Incoming Seton Hall freshman Isaiah Whitehead looked very comfortable among a collection of seasoned collegiate guards at the Nike Point Guard and Big Men Skills Academy at Kean University.

Whitehead, a 6-4 combo guard, was the lone player from the incoming freshmen class among the group of collegiate guards, but he looked like he was just another veteran player on the court.

“They’ve [the college guards] given me advice, but just playing on the court with them,” Whitehead said. “Just seeing what they do to me and then they’ll explain it to me after. Like [Gonzaga guard] Kevin Pangos, he gave me a lot of info just about how to control your team, to control the tempo of the game and have it under control.”

On Wednesday, Whitehead and Pangos were matched up on each other during the scrimmage portion of the session and the two dueled it out on both ends of the court.

Whitehead also spoke about which aspects of his game he thought the camp had helped improve.

“It’s helped my game a lot on defense because these guys are much quicker and stronger,” he said. “I’m just trying to get ready for Seton Hall as much as I can and coming out here and playing with them. These top level point guards are showing me what I need to work on.”

Asked about Seton Hall’s heralded 2014 recruiting class, ranked 12th by ESPN, Whitehead said, “We just want to get better. All of us just want to go into the program and get better. Coach [Kevin] Willard definitely can do that because he’s worked in the NBA before so he knows what it takes to get there and just what you need. We’re just going to go in there and play hard for him and hopefully we’ll have some success.”

Whitehead is a part of the six-man recruiting class for Seton Hall this season which also features Desi Rodriguez, Khadeen CarringtonAngel DelgadoIsmael Sanogo and Mike Nzei.
