  • Tyshawn Taylor Signs in Puerto Rico (UPDATED)

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
TyshawnFormer Brooklyn Nets and Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor has signed with Atléticos de San Germán in Puerto Rico and will join the team in April, the team’s co-owner, Alberto Muniz, told SNY.tv. by phone.

Taylor is currently with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League, averaging 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds, and will join Atléticos after the D-League season ends April 4. The Atléticos begin their season March 26.

“He will start playing immediately when he finishes the NBDL,” Muniz said. “He will be arriving to Puerto Rico and playing with Atléticos de San Germán, which is the most traditional team here in Puerto Rico.”

Taylor’s former St. Anthony High School teammate, Mike Rosario, as well as former St. Anthony forward Chris Gaston both play for Leones de Ponce in Puerto Rico.

Taylor was the 41st overall selection in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, who then traded his rights to the Nets. In 61 career games with Brooklyn (3 starts) Taylor averaged 2.9 points in 8.0 minutes per game.

Taylor was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 21 in exchange for cash considerations and the rights to Edin Bavèiæ. Taylor was waived by the Pelicans on Jan. 23.

Muniz also said that onetime Seton Hall pledge Aquille Carr could play with the team, too.

“Aquille Carr will be in the tryout,” Muniz said. “His agent called us and asked us if he can practice [with] us. Tyshawn arrives 10 days late for the season and Aquille is one of the options to fill that 10 days.”

SNY.tv first reported Thursday that Carr was slated to work out for Atléticos.
