  • Briscoe to Roselle Catholic; Richardson to Trenton Catholic (UPDATED)

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
It appears that Isaiah Briscoe will step in and fill the void left by Malachi Richardson at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic.

After Richardson announced he was leaving RC for Trenton Catholic, the 6-foot-2 Briscoe has decided to attend RC, his father told SNY.tv Sunday.

“Roselle Catholic,” George Briscoe said by text. “Done.”

“We are extremely excited that Isaiah and his family have chosen Roselle Catholic as the school for him to continue his academic and athletic career,” RC coach Dave Boff told SNY.tv.

Briscoe is being recruited by Arizona, Florida, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Seton Hall.

After leaving St. Benedict’s Prep following his sophomore season, Briscoe had also considered Sparta (N.J.) Pope John, Our Savior New American on Long Island, Henderson (NV) Findlay Prep and Brewster (N.H.) Academy, among others.

“I kind of want to start my own path and do my own thing instead of just following a trend of doing what everybody else is doing,” Briscoe told SNY.tv recently.

“Any local school I would be starting my own path because all the ranked guys want to go to Huntington, Findlay and everywhere else so I think I can do something locally and maybe a win couple of championships in my state.”

Briscoe and St. Benedict’s came within a late Montverde (FL) Academy 3-pointer last year of winning the ESPN NHSI championship.

Roselle Catholic is coming off a state championship with a team that featured Richardson, incoming Syracuse forward Tyler Roberson and graduated point guard Hakim Saintil, who committed to South Alabama

The 6-5 Richardson, a 2015 wing with offers from UConn, Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas, Ohio State and Syracuse, previously announced he was leaving the defending Tournament of Champions winner for Trenton Catholic.

“I wanted to be back in my hometown and to be able to play in front of my family,” Richardson told SNY.tv. “And I also moved back to Mercer County.”

Said Boff: “We understand the decision made by Malachi and his family and wish him the best.”

The shuffling of guards in New Jersey can sometimes be an annual occurrence. In the past, former Paterson Catholic guards Myles Mack and Kyle Anderson both landed at St. Anthony when PC closed.

And just this year, former Pope John point guard Bryce Aiken left that school for The Patrick School.
